Two Annoying Problems

I have two annoying problems on my homepage:

1. I've had a "1 New  Message" alert on my page for about a year now. It won't go away, even when I have no new messages.

2. Recently, I received an alert under the heading "New Comments" with the link to that page.  When I click the link, it says I'm not friends with that person and I can't get to the page - which is accurate and fine-  but the alert won't go away - which is quite annoying.

For the record, refreshing the page and rebooting my computer have no effect.

Thank you.

Try clearing history, cookies, etc. Then refresh the page.

Are you tracking that thread?

Were you ever friends with the poster? Have you tried becoming friends (temporarily) with the poster and then ceasing to be friends again?

Artfizz: I don't even know who the person is. I just know the name of the page.  But I imagine at some time I checked the box to follow this discussion, but now, I can't not only follow it, but I can't unfollow it either. This, I believe is the root of the problem, but, since I can't do anything about it,  I posted it here.
I was never friends with this person since I don't use the "friend" feature.

Thanks.

David-Neff:  Thanks.  That would only pertain to the first problem. Since it's been going on for a year or so, and only with this one message, I can't believe that the solution will come from my end.  I've found to completely and purposefully purge cookies often causes more difficulties (no more automatic log-ins, so I have to try to find names and passwords to everything) than is solves.  If that was a guaranteed solution, it might be worth the trouble, but I have a strong feeling (since during the past 12 months, it's likely my cookies have, in fact, been purged more than once) it will be a lot of trouble for nothing.

thanks. looking into it...

No, thank you, erik!

Hi Batgirl, I checked out your account and you did have a message from chessiq on page 5 of your messages inbox which was unread, so I went ahead and changed its status so it wasn't flagged as a new message any longer. If this happens again, just go through your messages inbox and locate any new messages and delete or read them and it should resolve that issue. The other issue has been fixed as well. thanks for finding it.

There seem to be a number of places where losing access to tracked material, be it in a group, another member's blog or otherwise doesn't automatically remove the tracking.  Short of fixing each of the individual cases of this problem (which would be the ideal solution), is it not possible to provide a central "content I am tracking" page where you can manage what you are and are not tracking regardless of whether you have access to the content itself or not?

Apologies if this has actually been fixed properly, but I know it's been an issue in a number of places, and I've seen the problem myself as recently as a couple of months ago.

Thanks Jay. You're the MAN ! (as if that were ever in doubt...)

TheGrobe, I am fixing them as they arise. If you see it, let me know, and I'll try to fix that particular instance of the problem. I'm not just manually clearing the issue in the DB. :)

Thanks Jay, I've not seen one in a while, but I'm also not tracking a lot of content and that which I am is related to the few groups and friends I have associated which change very infrequently.  If I do come across it again I'll let you know.

Why is this a public forum post rather tha a direct support request - it seems like a problem only relevant to the OP.

Sometimes problems of this nature manifest themselves in a number of different ways, and a public forum encourages others to highlight other instances.  This problem is a good example of one that was at one point widespread beyond just those instances raised by BatGirl.

Also, everyone had forgotten about it until you bumped it just now....

The non-specific title of the topic is an annoying problem though. Smile
