Unsportsmanlike conduct

JohnClarkSwe accepted 24 hour game against me, aka Da-Nee. Monday with about an hour left he went on "vacation". About 17 hours later he returned and made a move. Today, Tuesday, he went on vacation again with 88 minutes. I consider this unsportsmanlike behavior. Can he be censured in some way or at least forfeit the game? Thank you.

My point is that a person should not accept a 24 hour game if they don't intend to make at least one move in the allotted time.

He made 2 moves yesterday after about a 22 hour "vacation" and started his next "vacation" with 7 minutes remaining.  This is total BS.  If I wanted to play a 2 day game, that is what I would have chosen that.

Hey there, I understand how you feel, however, I encourage you to be understanding. As has been pointed out, your opponent may have matters in their life that must be attended to. It also possible that your opponent has a lot of games and is using vacation mode so at to not time out.

In any case, chess.com discourages vacation time abuse and has certain measures in place to try and mitigate "frivolous use of vacation time". There is a "24 hour minimum" vacation time rule in place. What this means is that that a minimum of 24 hours is always deducted when a person goes into vacation mode.

If are confident your opponent is abusing vacation time, feel free to contact chess.com.

Finish your game and block him.

I hope to finish the game before I die and I'm 68 now.  Yes, I will block him for certain.  :)

I'm sixty. Good to see you playing chess. There is a group here under "clubs" for we oldies. It's called the "Geezers." It's a fun group.

FWIW, here is the final word:

Hey there!

Thank you for writing in! I took a look and JohnClarkSwe is no longer on vacation time. It looks like the system is automatically turning on the vacation time during these games.

What you are seeing is “auto-vacation”. When the premium member’s game gets low on time, auto-vacation will kick in and add 24 hours to their move time. If they “unpause” their games to make a move, the time to move will reflect the additional 24 hours, minus the time that has gone by since the game was put on vacation.

Every time this happens, 1 day is removed from their vacation hours.

Please let me know if you have any questions about this, or anything else on the site and I’ll be happy to help!

Who knew there was such a thing as "auto-vacation" and personally, I think it sucks.
