It depends on how you purchased.
If you got it through the website then upgrading will prorate any unused portion of your original premium and apply that toward a new subscription or the higher level.
Android may work the same but my understanding is that the iOS app store works differently and you would need to cancel and refund the old and purchase the higher level.
