Hello -

I just joined USCF and the email said I can use my PIN to play rated games on Chess.com. I don't see any way to do this - does anyone know how?

Thanks

Madanach

You have to request access to the following club:

https://www.chess.com/club/uschess

Fill out this form:

https://www.chess.com/news/view/uscf-member-authentication-9266

Then, once the USCF verifies you, you will be able to play in any of the scheduled events:

I see you have already joined ..... please fill out the form but you will not be able to play in any events until the USCF verifies your form (your club status will be changed until that is done).

Thanks! Yep just figured out how to join. I'll fill out the form. Looks like it's just blitz thus far? I suppose you can't keep people from cheating in longer games, sad. I live in an area where I have to travel hours to find a rated OTB game.

Martin_Stahl

It is Online Blitz and Online Quick official ratings .... they do not impact your OTB ratings.

Madanach

gotcha thanks

I am interested in signing up for this. I was wondering how they determine your starting rating, if you don't already have a USCF membership or other OTB ratings ?

It works just like it does for OTB. They basically do rating initialization based on your performance in the games and then use that for the rating formula.

After signing up for the USCF and putting in a request to the group US Chess, about how long does it take to confirm your membership and get accepted into the club ?

I've requested membership twice over the last couple years and have never heard back from them, not a word.  Not a yes, not a no, not even a go eff yourself.

Hope you have better luck than I did getting a response.

You have to

  1. Fill out the form
  2. Join the club
  3. Get verified
  4. Get approved

You never did 2, or if you did, you joined and did not fill out the form in a timely manner so your request was denied.

We normally do not contact members unless there was a problem verifying their form. So, if you want to be in the club, you should Join.

I went to the club and filled out the form. I can't explain why there is some reason that it doesn't appear that I joined the club or filled out the form...???

SeniorPatzer

Thanks for the logistical questions.

Christopher_Parsons

I did realize later that I didn't click the join button. I only filled out the application. I was confused and was considering them one and the same. So now I have filled out an application and clicked join. The question now is did I do it within a close enough time frame to one another ?

The timeline is only so we don't have a bunch of pending members all the time. The main things that matter are having a verified form and having actually joined the club (clicking the join button).

If the join is done without a form at all, or the form is done past the timeframe where we deny the request,  then a member would need to request access again.

My original reply was to @PoolPlayerToo.  As soon as you requested access, I approved you, since you had a verified form. Though, I have accidentally denied requests in the past, rarely, that were awaiting verification. I usually remember to contact the member in that situation,  but may not always. If that was the case, I apologize.

Thanks, Martin_Stahl, I must have done it like you described.  I'm in now.

I didn't get on yesterday but changing your username after filling out the form would have caused a slight delay as well wink.png
