Chess downloads? Could you be a little more specific?

The ones on this site (the game records and such) are mostly .pgn's, which are the more or less universal file type for chess games. basically any chess program is going to be able to read them. Many programs are availible on the internet, some free, some not.
Is that what you meant?
I'll defer to the people who know better than me as far as suggestions go.

Winboard is a free program that can open .pgns so you can view your games. It does not have a lot of the features (like computer engine analysis and such) but you can get Fritz 5.32 for free to do that.

chessmaster is real cheap and does it, or arena is free!
www.playwitharena.com - it also comes with good and strong engines.
