"vacation status" lost me 4 games

What some players do, is to ask one of their "friends" to check their public profile, to ensure that the "vacation" notices are up. As to your desire to turn back time, I can't see it happening, however, for a definitive answer ask Erik.
Only just noticed that our game was over. That's pretty weird, it suddenly ending, because when you were still vacationing yesterday the game looked as if the clock had stopped. Your vacation status was definitely up. Sounding like a software error.

If someone has 50 games going and has online opponents he may never be able to go on vacation then. Before he made a move in all games, one of his opponents will have made a move already... Have you considered this when you implemented the new rule?

I made all my moves before I went on vacation, and my opponents were all offline. I went on vacation and got back today and found that I had lost two games on time.
trying to go on vacation was tough for me as well, i was very ill and could not focus enough to play, yet i had to make moves in all games to go on vacation, in most, i made terrible moves as they were hurried and not thought out, or in some cases not even rational :-) but i cant blame that on being sick....
its tough to administer a policy to try and protect against abuse as any program/procedure will be good for some and bad for others. chess.com keep up the effort.

someone i had a game with, marked themselves as "on vacation" a few days ago, he still had 20+ days remaining.. the clock was still counting down and he's just timed out on all of his games even though his status on each game still shows "vacation"

if anyone can reproduce this vacation bug that would be REALLY helpful. i can't get it to work. when i set mine to vacation the time does stop. and it has always worked for all of my opponents too. help!?
The same thing happened to me today, i set the vacation timer before christmas and I'm still on vacation. But when I logged in today 7 of my 8 games were lost on time.
My Vacation time worked... maybe they aren't careful when they click the vacation time button... or maybe they dont click "save preferences" button when they click the vacation time button... just be really careful when you want your vacation time to work.

FYI to all: we are working on a fix for this. it was a bug caused by the new year. we are trying to fix all of the games that should not have been lost. i apologize for any inconvenience! more info to follow...
I am currently in a game where my opponent went on vacation, but now it shows the clock counting down from 11 days, is this normal? I would prefer to win the game on skill, not time.

Sorry for all of this guys. Let me explain the "y2k8" bug in slightly more technical terms for those of you who care. :)
We have a "vacation reset" cron script which runs on the 1st of every year, whose purpose is to reset everyones vacation to 40 days. However, imagine the scenario where someone left for vacation on Dec 1st, 2007, and comes BACK from vacation on Jan 5, 2008. Whenever you come back from vacation, there are namely two things that occur:
1) All your games are time credited with how long you were on vacation (in our scenario case, 35 days would be added to your clock since you were on vacation for 35 days)
2) Your vacation time remaining is subtracted by 35 days
#2 is going to cause a problem for those coming back from vacation AFTER Jan 1st, because JoeBlow is going to now lose 35 days of his NEW 40 days of vacation time, and only have 5 days of vacation time remaining for 2008. In all reality he should still have 35 days, since he's only used 5 days in 08 (even though he was gone for a total of 35 days.)
SOOOOO, what the vacation reset script does to fix this problem scenario, is that it resets everyones vacation leave date to be Jan 1st, so now even though JoeBlow left on vacation on Dec 1, 2007, the script now makes it appear as if he left on Jan 1, 2008. I thought this wouldnt' cause any problems when I wrote this script 5 months ago.
Unfortunately, as many of you have experienced, I was wrong. By resetting everyone's vacation leave date, it screws up step #1 of the return from vacation logic above. YOu don't get credited the right amount of time, and you lose your games on time. It also messes up the time remaining calculations which many of you also saw on those people who were still on vacation who had 20-30 games all with 0 seconds left.
So, here are the steps we've taken to fix this.
- I've reset everyones clocks in all games to "stop the bleeding" so we didn't have any more games lose on time due to the bug.
- I've written a script and restored ALL games that have lost on time since the start of the new year (10 hours ago) and corrected all related players ratings.
At this point, I still don't have a fix for the original bug that caused all of this, but the good news is.......I have 364 days to figure it out. :)
Sorry once again for the troubles. This bug will go down in Chess.com history as the Y2K8 bug!
How about giving the player whose opponent wants to go on vacation a chance to end game with no result. Like the game never took place, no win, no lose, no draw.
I don't even know HOW to get access to the vacation button. Could not find it anywhere, neither on Home or under Profile or anywhere else. Can someone help me?

I think it has to be your opponent's move in all games for you to turn it on manually, but as a premium member you'd automatically be put on vacation if you're about to lose on time (for games where vacation is permitted of course).
I recently went on holiday and so changed my status to "vacation" so as to not lose on my games, many of which were set to 24 hour move times. However upon my return I have changed my status back to normal only to find that I have lost 4 games on time and my rating has dropped some 80 points - I thought this was the point of vacation status. Is there any way to repair my rating (to 1284) or to continue the games?
