What does "engine evaluation" setting do in live settings?

Hi all. Perhaps someone knows what the following setting does. It is the "engine analysis" setting toggle switch in live settings. See below. I have highlighted it. What does it do or switch on? I switched it on and saw no change to anything.

I believe that shows engine lines when you are watching other player's games.

@Martin_Stahl I thought the same thing, that it controlled the white/black engine analysis verticle bar but I watched a few live matches today with this setting switch off and yet the engine analysis bar still showed on the left side of the board. So it does not appear to be that either.

That is correct, but that setting is going away soon.   The sitting will appear on top of move list while you are watchign.

Hi @jdcannon happy.png

Yup I realized that... as I saw on viewed live games there are 2 toggle switches to control the analysis bar and lines...so the "engine analysis" setting in live settings actually has no real purpose anymore. By the way... I noticed that when I toggled the "lines" switch to the on position in a watched live game board it actually turned on the "engine evaluation" toggle switch in live settings and when I turned the "lines" switch off it turned the "engine analysis" toggle switch off. So yup...that setting actually does nothing anymore. It just follows what one sets the "lines" switch in a viewed game board to. happy.png. Case closed.

Would have thought that toggle would set the default. @jdcannon, will the system just keep your previous option now instead so if you want it off, it will stay off?

@Martin_Stahl I did some testing. I started with the "engine evaluation" in live settings off. When I opened up a live game the "lines" switch was off. I then went to live settings and turned the "engine evaluation" switch on. I then reopened the live game but the "lines" switch was in the off position. I then moved it to the on position. I then went back to live settings and the "engine evaluation" switch was now on. I went back to the game, switched off "lines" and went back to live settings and the "engine evaluation" switch was off. So the "engine evaluation" toggle switch in live settings controls nothing actually....it just follows the on/of position of the "lines" switch in a live game. Note that whenever one opens a live game the "lines" switch is off by default...no matter what the "engine evaluation" switch is set to in live settings. So there is no use for the "engine evaluation" setting anymore. It controls nothing anymore. One now controls "lines" and "evaluation" from the live game itself with their respective switches. I suspect the "engine evaluation" setting is a "throwback" from when there were no toggle switches in the live game board itself. So I guess I have ended up answering all my own questions through testing happy.png

I just always want it off by default.
