I know ads on chess.com help cover a bit of fee on the chess.com site, but the thing is they work by making people take notice of them. And when they see it, they think if it's worth it, and they have that little chance that they will click it open, but how do they know if you have an AdBlock? I know they ask you to rid your AdBlock beforehand, but they can't quit the site on you just because you have AdBlock. Of course, this doesn't affect the chess.com staff, but it does kinda scam the ad buyers. You see, they give you a couple of bucks so the chess.com staff can add ads, but it gets blocked by AdBlocker! So for example, there are 20 people using chess.com, and half of them have AdBlocker, and half of them don't. Which means the ad buyers had bought the full price of just half the rewards. That does scam the company, even though chess.com can't do anything about it.
I believe that advertisers are well aware of the issue and that paid rates are directly affected by click-through rates.
I also think that Chess.com could make things a lot more difficult for ad blocker users.
