Why did this even happen?

So just like usual, I was waiting for a 10 min game. This time, the system made me wait a very, VERY long time, which made me frustated. I tried to start a casual game of 3 min instead, and found to my horror, my rating had been decreased, and after completing the game, I found that I had a game left abandoned in my archive. I didn't even recieve the game window yet I had four bars of connection. WTF is this??

And how tf did the system make me resign if I did not get the game? I didn't play for a long time, the game should have been just aborted. What  sort of thing is this? Pls give me my rating points back. Link to the offending game (which had not been displayed in my window) - https://www.chess.com/game/live/123607107540

PS: And if anyone tells me that u can gain rating by playing more games and it will go back naturally, let me remind this person that this is 2300 level chess, where it is hard to win. I have heard this nonsense many times.

Thanks,

ariel.

https://support.chess.com/en/articles/8593801-how-does-game-abandonment-work. Usually if you don't play a move, the game will automatically abort after a certain amount of time. From what I know, game abandonments before move 1 only happen when someone has aborted too many games and thus their options are either to resign, play a move, or you get an abandonment. Because of their previous aborting or abandonments they no longer have the privilege to abort a game. If you've aborted many games, this may be your reason. If you queue for a game and before move 1 see that your options are draw or resign instead of draw or abort, the aforementioned is probably the reason why.

As for your rating, unfortunately I don't think you'll get that refunded, I know it sucks, but it is true that things will balance out in the long run.

Well, I didn't even play for more than a month, let alone be aborting games. Even during the brief session I didn't abort any. Last time I aborted some was quite some MONTHS ago.

Why does this injustice even happen? Why did this BUG I mentioned in #1 EVEN OCCUR??

Why do u even think the rating won't be refunded?

"Things will balance out in the long run"

Didn't u READ my last paragraph? I used to play in Lichess in the past and the scum ppl used to say THAT EXACT SAME thing to me. And oh, u r just at my level. Don't u know how hard it is to gain rating?

I'm not sure the time that's passed plays a roll, it's more so how close the games have been played in relation to each other. As in, it doesn't matter if you played 10 games over the course of 10 months or 10 games all at once, the time that passes between the games doesn't change anything, as I understand it. Looking at your past games, you played 50 games and aborted or abandoned 11 of them. That seems to be a problem. That doesn't even show the games that were aborted before they counted as a game. It could be that you aborted games or this "bug" happened many times. Do you recall aborting/abandoning the other games or was this a one off occurrence? Because I don't see this as a commonplace issue. Chess.com usually doesn't refund points unless some rule has been broken, I don't think they refund based off of connection or tech issues.

I did read your last paragraph. I don't see that stating things will balance out is scummy. It's the truth. I do know it's difficult to gain rating but I also know that if you play at the same strength, you'll get to where you should be. Sometimes there's things out of our control, it's best not to let one game ruin our outlook. The way I see it when something like that happens to me, is that it wasn't a fault on my end, I didn't lose the game so it shouldn't affect my play or anything. Ratings come and go, it's best to not get attached to them.

Thats true. I didn't think time did not count when aborting games. But what u said was also quite true.

I cannot chat with my opponents during the game. It's been like this for a long time and I'm trying to fix it but it's not working. I think I need an account activation link. Can you help?
