https://support.chess.com/en/articles/8593801-how-does-game-abandonment-work. Usually if you don't play a move, the game will automatically abort after a certain amount of time. From what I know, game abandonments before move 1 only happen when someone has aborted too many games and thus their options are either to resign, play a move, or you get an abandonment. Because of their previous aborting or abandonments they no longer have the privilege to abort a game. If you've aborted many games, this may be your reason. If you queue for a game and before move 1 see that your options are draw or resign instead of draw or abort, the aforementioned is probably the reason why.
As for your rating, unfortunately I don't think you'll get that refunded, I know it sucks, but it is true that things will balance out in the long run.
So just like usual, I was waiting for a 10 min game. This time, the system made me wait a very, VERY long time, which made me frustated. I tried to start a casual game of 3 min instead, and found to my horror, my rating had been decreased, and after completing the game, I found that I had a game left abandoned in my archive. I didn't even recieve the game window yet I had four bars of connection. WTF is this??
And how tf did the system make me resign if I did not get the game? I didn't play for a long time, the game should have been just aborted. What sort of thing is this? Pls give me my rating points back. Link to the offending game (which had not been displayed in my window) - https://www.chess.com/game/live/123607107540.
PS: And if anyone tells me that u can gain rating by playing more games and it will go back naturally, let me remind this person that this is 2300 level chess, where it is hard to win. I have heard this nonsense many times.
Thanks,
ariel.
