why draw?

Hi everybody. Does anybody know why at the end of the time of my opponent, the server told me draw? He ended his time so I won.. or not?

If there is no pieces to mate him whatsoever, even if you could chose what white moves, it is a draw by time.

Gil-Gandel

Exactly right. To win on time there has to be a possible way to mate the opponent - even if he would have to actively help you to make it happen. If you couldn't do it even with his help, you only draw when he was out of time.

And now I'll say what I usually say, which is "stop mucking about trying to win on the clock, and get out there playing proper chess". Laughing

In addition, if you are:

1). ahead on material

2). behind on time

3). running out of time

4). can't see a checkmate/checkmate sequence

Make sure you take all of your opponents pieces, that way you will at least get a draw. Smile
