Will Chess.com transfer or refund a Family Membership after a ban + new account?

Hello everyone,

I’m posting here to ask about a situation that a family member is going through, in hopes that someone from the community or the support team can clarify.

Situation:

He had a family membership / plan on his main account.
Unfortunately, he was banned because he had two accounts (which is against the rules).
Chess.com support already restored a premium membership to his new account, but did not transfer the family plan yet.
He is waiting for the support team’s decision regarding the family membership.
Questions I’d like clarified:

Has anyone ever had a family plan transferred from a banned account to a new one?
Under Chess.com’s policies, is it allowed (or typical) for them to refund or reassign a family plan in such cases?
What kind of arguments or proofs helped people convince support to grant a transfer or refund?
If the support denies the transfer, is there any recourse (appeal, escalation) that has worked?
If you’ve experienced something similar, your insight would be very helpful. Thank you in advance!

Best regards,
softpumper

I think it's still a new plan and that we haven't seen these kinds of questions posted in the forum previously.

So I would guess that the answer is "No one knows."

There seems to be some of those questions being asked on Reddit. You might try to ask there.

For an update: Chess.com has assigned the Family Plan to the new account and my relative was able to re-assign the users from the old Family Plan. Just a reminder that the ban on the original account was due to having two accounts — I’m not sure if the same process works for other types of bans or if this will apply in all cases.

Hi, thanks for this post. we have the same issue. Appeal was denied. I am trying to transfer the membership to my account because me and my friends paid for it and I am the only one who can use the full feature of diamond membership. We paid the subscription to learn, why would any of us violate the rules and suffer being banned. Our primary account got banned less than a month of paying the premium for unclear violations of fair play.

You'll need to contact Support directly using the option in the menu.

Hi, Martin. I already have. The billing staff told me to use that primary account to request the transfer which I cannot use because it was closed. Also, appeal was denied. We can't log in to the primary account. Our Family and Friends account started just this October 2025, the ban is for a year which would expire our subscription, which means saying goodbye to Chess.com for us. Hoping to find a less stressful site to play chess. Thanks!

If you can verify you owned the closed account then billing staff can likely transfer the membership

You can get the support tool to contact Support directly. The purchaser of the original membership should do it. Be as specific as possible and it should eventually give the following option.
