10 opening principles

1- Open game with a central pawn (except for real good reason)

2- Don't develop your queen too fast in the game (except for real good reason)

3-Knight before Bishop (except for real good reason)

4-Develop rooks on central/open-files (except for real good reason)

5-Castle soon (except for real good reason)

6-Seek for an attack only when all your pieces are mobilized (except for real good reason)

7-Capture in the center (except for real good reason)

8-Don't move the same piece two time soon in the opening (except for real good reason)

9-Don't allow to much mobility in the center at your opponen (except for real good reason)

10-Try to cancel your opponen game plan (except for real good reason)

what about having a plan of your own, always re-acting to your opponent tends to end in defeat.

There are plenty of good openings that do not move a central pawn. (English opening) my favorite.

That's ok, as long as you have a really good reason to play th English.
