abandoned game :|
All losses count exactly the same for rating purposes.
My apologies prawn...due to the ginormous nature of the OP's print screen i didnt see your reply. Which i just repeated...
No worries, yours is better anyway.
ok thank you guys, my bad
I thought rating varied depending on checkmate, time, etc.
Still a coward action from an opponent- booo!
Hmm, while moderating in Live Chess many people have complained about people abandoning games, but there are some points i would like to make, first of all, no its never nice to purposely let your clock run becasue your losing, thats not good sportsmanship.
However, a timelimit is agreed to by both opponents before starting a game, this agreement basically means, If neither party checkmates, stalemates, draws or resigns, then the person who runs out of time first loses.
Each player is entitled to use as much of their time as they want to "make their move", and remember both of ye have agreed to this.
So, i guess what im saying is firstly, dont always assume someone has abandoned the game, they may just be taking a while to think or something more urgent then there chess game has come up and they did not get the chance to resign, theyu are not automaticallly bad people :)
Secondly, remember that you both agreed to that time limit, and you can always choose shorter times against members you dont know.
Thirdly, you can always go make a cup of tea while waiting ;)
As I sit with a 90|0 timer running all the way down from 70 mins, 1 move from mate, I wonder is there any way we could make a forum section for abuse? We could start a topic for each alleged offender and they could even explain why they did what they did if they thought they were unfairly accused. The list of names might discourage furthur abuse.

I see what your saying SnidleyWhiplash, and yes i can see why something like that may be necessary.
However the problem with that is that there is no way to prove the "Time" after a game, so there could be loads of false accusations, as there is no record on the time elapsed of a live chess game.
However i would draw your attention to Piotrs above comment:
piotr : Soon, we'll start punishing those guys. Cheers!
I would pay close attention to that, becasue piotr is the brains behind the code and technical service (servers) of live chess, so when he makes a comment like that, its good to take heed :)
Thanks
exactly the same thing happened in my previous game.i think the rating points gained by me due to my opponent abandoning the game was much lesser than that due to a checkmate.some action must be taken against such players or equal points must be given whatever the mode of win might be.
