Blitz chess vs. Slow chess. Wich is better!

Hello hello hello, I'm back with a new topic of mine. Ok folks, studies have said that blitz chess is good for learning and testing out new openings but it damages your slow games of chess such as tournaments. Slow chess is good for developing your game properly and for tactics but it takes a lot of energy out and leaves you tired.

Give it to me straight. Blitz chess or Slow chess?

Ziryab

Blitz chess makes me hungry, angry, tired, and often lonely. It is a drug. Avoid it.

Slow chess is true chess.

Yes blitz chess tends to stress players out. It is addictive. Unfortunately for me, I am still strongly addicted to it. I am trying to slow down my game, no pun intended.

I finally quit smoking after hitting 2.5 packs a day. Just stopped on 17 June last year, just like that, easiest thing ever.  Quitting blitz would be harder.

loversdreamland

It is hard. It is so addictive and the more I play it the less my game wins on slow games.

Blits is not about stratigy it is about time.

I smoked a pipe, cigars, and hand-rolled cigarettes. Quit in an instant. Quitting blitz? I don't believe that it is possible.

I agree with you. Now I don't smoke but I can agree that quitting blitz is a near impossible feat.

I found for myself that rapid 10 min ( I am note sure if it blitz) game is more entertainment, emotions and more sport like, which make more sense for me. There is still time for some plans and strategical thinking.

Bullet (2 min and less) in my opinion absolutely senseless game.

Blitz is for Time pass .When stuck a jam. When waiting for someone etc.It is time pass only.

Just make sure that both players like the tempo. Nothing as bad as one looking for a quicky and the other wanting to take his/her time... :-)

If you want a quickie, use short time controls. The only way to disrupt an agreed upon time control is through lag, which some players deliberately manipulate.

Congratulattions.

After I played a tournament with 7 games (2 hours + 1 hour after 40 moves), my blitz rating went up 100 points.

Define "better".

If the question is "which one is better for your general chess understanding", the answer is longer games, not even hardcore rapid players like me will disagree.

If the question is "what is the more fun to play", none can answer for you.

revengeofthepawns

I like blitz 10 minute chess better because with the clock being more of a factor, the game is much different.  You can choose to play conservative and defensive when you have the time advantage.

I don't remember exactly where I heard the quote but it's a good one: "Blitz is the crystal meth of chess". Obviously slow is better if you're playing to improve. Ofc many people think blitz is much more fun.

I am not alone, then! Well said about Blitz. It is love/hate for me and addictive, and I was able to stop for a while but I can't stay away for too long, lol.

I like both, but let the record show that I cannot calculate as quickly in blitz as I can in slow or e-chess. Embarassed

By definition, everything is harder than the easiest thing ever.
