Do you really need more than one forum to get this point across? I mean, it was a good feature and everything, but consider why they may leave it out. Perhaps it was a main cause of disconnects?
Bring back LIVE CHESS 1.0, please let us easily watch games

I talked to Eric (do you know who that is?) about this months ago and he assured me that it was being worked on. I started the second thread because I think my thread title wasn't attracting any attention. I have not figured out if I can delete a thread I've started. If I could I would. Eric didn't tell say anything to me about connection issues being related to observing games. Do you have any reason to believe that observing games and disconnects were relate??
I do indeed know of Erik, though I do not know him personally.
My reason for believe it could cause disconnects? Well, if there are a large number of people watching, the board could be somewhat over-accessed, and if someone has a bad connection... there it goes! (It makes sense to me, at least...)
In any case, there are probably more important things for chess.com to release than game-watching.

Well, to me it was really just about the most important thing here at chess.com. I've found myself going to other sites just because they're better set up for observing games. It seems to me that if you want people pay you should be "full service". I would totally be into paid membership if they got this working again. The only reason I didn't renew my diamond membership was because they didn't get the observe feature running well. I've talked to alot of other here in the community who are disappointed by the lack of an effective "observe" feature.
I'm sorry... but if you are willing to stop paying because you can't watch other player's games, well, that's pretty sad.
"It seems to me that if you want people pay you should be "full service"."
Really? Because, I mean, nobody pays because of the great features such as chessmentor or anything... (obvious sarcasm). The fact of this particular matter is, nobody really cares about watching others play chess! There are so many better things chess.com is working on, observing is pretty much near the bottom of the list. It just isn't that important. You pay for the features on this site, and observing games is not one of the main ones.
I have no doubt others would like to observe games, don't get me wrong, it's just not a main feature.

I disagree. For some, watching live chess is a prime reason for coming here. For some it's a reason why we head of to evil yahoo chess to kill time. We're all here for our own reasons. When I had a full membership I used alot of the different features, mainly watching instructional vidoes and using the tactics trainer alot.

I would really love to be able to sit and casually watch other peoples games more easly without having to go over to yahoo and deal with that crowd. We used to be able to do this easily here at chess.com.
1.) You can watch games of the members who's names you can click on. Just click their names and then click observe.
2.) They ARE working on a viewing system similar to Live Chess 1, but they are taking their time and getting it right.
3.) Live Chess 1 was awful, why anyone would want it back is beyond me.

1- It is very cumbersome to watch games in live chess now. Unless there is some way of doing it that I'm unware of. Currently you have right click on the names of people in the chat room and see if they're playing. If they are you can go and look. It might turn out that they're very poor players (that I don't want to watch) or that they're playing at some long time control where no one is moving. You can select for this when you go to observe.
2- If they're working on it I, and I'm guessing others, in the chess.com community would like to know about it. Where's your information coming from?
3- Although I personally had very few problems with livechess1.0 I understand that other did. I don't really want to bring livechess1.0 back. I don't really care one way or another as I had no problems with it. What I do want back is a simple and elegant way of viewing live games like we had in chess1.0. I've fine with 2.0 except for this problem, which for me is huge.
I know I may only represent a small percentage of people who really care about this. Maybe only 2%, who knows? But 2% of 1 million people is 20,000 community members. I for one am not going to renew my premium memebership until this feature is reasonably functional.

My information comes from the fact that they have said that they were planning to add this, and the fact that Erik has said, even by your own admission, that it's coming. I don't know or a time frame, I'm not even willing to guess at one. But, if Erik says it's the plan... rest assured that's the plan.

My correspondence with Erik was 3 months ago. That's a long time by internet standards. Hopefully it'll be soon. Maybe he'll see this thread and chime in....

Just got an email from Erik, he tells me he's hoping to have a well implimented "observe" function happening in 60 days!

The only reason I ever watched was to learn. There are plenty of articles for that. Playing teaches me a lot as well. The more I lose, the better I get : )
Please, Please, chess.com gods allow us to easily navigate to and watch games. Let's make some noise community!
