You both have to click on live chess if you want to play. On chess.com it's just www.chess.com/live and for iphone it should be the screen where you can change the settings of your game before playing.

In my tests I found that both users have to have the Chess.com app on screen for a live chess request to be accepted. If the person who you are sending the request to uses a different app (even momentarily), therefor sending Chess.com app into the background the the live game request will fail.
There is no guarantee that a live chess request will be successful even when these parameters are met in my experience.
An alternative is to use Daily Chess and just agree with your friend to complete the game by a certain time. In settings under Daily Chess, set the setting for “after my move” to “Stay in this board”.

That's the answer. I learned this about a half year ago for NSPCL.
Yes I searched the FAQ...
My friends and I are both on Iphones then both on FB app, we can see each other online but when you click challenge it says they are unavailable for live game. Anyone know how to get this rolling?
