The gall of some people. To blame it all on chess! Unbelievable.
Chess players are so easily offended.
The gall of some people. To blame it all on chess! Unbelievable.
Not blaming the behavior on chess, but after playing thousands of 1 min games I must attest it's pretty bad in that regard. It may be more the case of chess attracts these types of people b/c it's a very egocentric game for many

you are better than them. do you feel better now?
I do! But I did before I posted this. haha It's just a discussion.
your topic is pointless unless you can do something about it. these things have been discussed many times before. i have played more than 2000 games on this website and i might have exprienced any problem with users only in 50 games. i consider this to be normal. this is the real world we are living in. the very fact you can not handle it and make a topic out of it indicates the fact you are the one with social problems. some guys get offended for various reasons and there is nothing i can do about it. you better be in control of your behavior. for example last night i won a bullet game and my opponent called me "runner" since i didn't want a rematch. i don't play rematches since rematches are kind of vengeful but this time i accepted his rematches to prove to myself i am not a runner and i beat him 7-0. but you get offended and post a topic about it.

Wow, dude. You're just proving my point. You're offended I even posted this. Nowhere did I say I was offended. It's merely an observation. Your last point also makes no sense. I don't get offended by "runners". In fact, I didn't even mention runners. The truth is there's nothing that offends me about other player behavior. You can't seem to grasp that. The lack of emotional intelligence, contradictions and hypocritical nature is in fact worse in chess than other communities though, which if this were truly an intelligent forum we could have a discussion about why that is.

and did i anwhere said i am offended? lol. don't get stuck in one word and miss the point.
"runners" was an example. seriously do i have to explain that? ok i explain that: it was an "observation" just like your type of "observations". people think i am rude since i don't play "rematch".
the point is you have nothing intelligent to say about it. you just made a shallow typical topic and tried to blow it out of proportion with some ridiculous examples. this has nothing to with chess community. this is the real world. go out and see it.

You don't have to say you're offended... I'm a part of many communities but the chess community is the most toxic. I believe it is due to the fact that it's a community of people with less emotional intelligence. Why is this? Well that could be part of the discussion but you say it's too shallow. haha So be it then. It's part of the real world. But so is discussing these things... And yea, you are offended I posted this, which is ironic!

Blah... Blah....

HA HA The OP admits to being a Spineless Jelly Fish!
I knew it!
Finally you show your true colors OP.
Not offering rematches to people.
Trying to steal a win with the white pieces than swim away?
A Jelly Fish has been spotted right there >>>> entrepro <<<<

No one is required to rematch. It has nothing to do with being spineless. Sometimes I only have time for one game. So what? That's my point. If you get offended about that and assume whoever plays one gameis "running away", I'm sorry to say but you have low emotional intelligence...

"It's amusing to me, but lately I'm starting to feel pity for them, as if they have some type of social developmental disability."
YEP!
There are some people like that. I've also met some really nice people on here. I'd bet it's just competitive egos coming out. I find it nice when someone wants to chat, says gg, or requests rematches...but there's no problem if they don't do these things. There are a lot of people here that do throw false cheating accusations around and those do bug me...
As a side note I am offended that you think chess players are easily offended.

I'll admit the title was me being a bit facetious. I don't think all chess players are like that. But it's definitely too many (at least on here). I used to get the false cheating thing a lot and yeah, that is definitely ego. Past 1900 you don't get a lot of that though. Instead it's like the stuff I listed.

the discussion can be amusing but not a discussion with you about it. you just draw conclusions with no need for reason or evidence. i am offended since you say so. chess community lacks emotional intelligence because you say so.
i have had very few problems with any member here and i consider it normal. is there weirdos in chess community? ofcourse but they are everywhere. your problems with members is about ego and people all around the world have a big ego. also being anynymous on internet allows people to be rude without facing consequences. these are the real reasons not collecting some ridiculous data from numerous games you have played and trying to prove something you already believed in.

I simply disagree with your assessment.
Ok fine, I'll try to explain for you. So your logic follows that:
a. Chess community is just like "real world" problems so there's no point in mentioning said problems. — Even though I disagree with this, this is a typical logical fallacy (appeal to common practice)
b. Chess community behavior is no different than any other community behavior. — Not true. Like I said, I'm a part of many communities, and chess is by far the worst when it comes to player behavior. And it's not even about being anonymous. I went to a few chess clubs with a friend and was surprised to find the behavior is the same, and a little more disturbing in person... You'll see this type of behavior in other gaming communities for sure, but what stands chess apart from those is that there doesn't seem to be an age where it becomes less appropriate. In fact, most of it is from adults over 25! Another noticeable difference is that in most communties you start to see this type of behavior in games where there is a time commitment, thus bigger investment on the part of the person. Yet a 1 minute game is all it takes for a person to go totally bonkers with chess! It's not normal.
c. The behavior I've mentioned doesn't happen a lot. — I usually play about 30 minutes - hour of 1 min chess 4-5 times a week and in each session there's always a few people like this. That really is a lot.
d. You think ego explains most of it. —Yeah, ego is a part of it but not all of it. Hell I'll be the first to admit I have a huge ego, but I don't behave like these people. There are a few other things at play here...

No one is required to rematch. It has nothing to do with being spineless. Sometimes I only have time for one game. So what? That's my point. If you get offended about that and assume whoever plays one game is "running away", I'm sorry to say but you have low emotional intelligence...
Thank you Entrepro for your confession!
You do not have to say anything esle.
We have a very clear picture.
In a tough spot a human often triggers a fight or flight response.
It is not Entrepro fault that he is a Jelly fish.
It is his genetic make up.
Running away in fear that his opponent will get a "Revenge Match".
When times get tough your body triggers this fight or flight response reaction.
You chose the honorable path to run away for another day.
Jelly Fish Man!

guy browsing through the chess forum is chanting "I will not get involved in a rematch argument- I will not get involved in a rematch argument..."
Rest of chess.com thinks,"wow! what a wierdo"
'failure' me hates it.

it is not a logical fallacy unless you prove it is.
if you are trying to prove anything, you should try to explain why it is like that. you have already talked about your personal observations.
maybe chess in US attracts a lot of weirdos for some reason but my personal observations differ from yours anyway.
That too! 25 years of sackcloth and ashes, with frequent flagelation, might be just barely enough. Cheating at a chess game gets 20 minutes in the penalty box.
