Disconnecting and reconnecting

Why do 5 mins blitz players seem to disconnect and reconnect repeatedly when they are losing?

Do they thus gain some time advantage?

It only happens when they are lost, and so I suspect that there is some cheating happening?

Can, for example, clocks be hacked, or similar?

QuinnsOperation
If they want to cheat ,why not use a engine ? If they want to play on their own, why they need cheating like that?

I've seen this phenomena for some time now, perhaps a couple of months?  I'm not sure, but it's really bizzare and what happens is that some players continually disconnect and reconnect in quick succesion.  I don't bother to wonder whether it's a cheat mechanism since I couldn't be sure in any case.  It's so odd.  Sometimes too, the lag indicator goes from green to orange to red and back again.  And also sometimes, some people on my friends list will connect and disconnect and re-connect again in quick order.

think it's internet nuttiness, maybe related to Chess.com service provider?  Traffic jams in the intertubes?  Shrug.

There are some cheat hacks out there - but people that have to do that are so pathetic that I just feel sorry for them, and if I suspect anyone, then I just right click on the name and block them after the game.

I have had this issue for some time now. Everything was working like a charm up until recently. Now it disconnect and reconnects repeatedly regardless whether I have a winning or losing position. I have lost many games on disconnections that never reconnected. This happens on windows machines, ipad, chrome, firefox and on different networks. It needs to be investigated before we lose more players...

Comments or tweeks in settings to avoid this from happening appreciated!! FYI I have tried 'stop page refresh' extensions on chrome without any luck...

CHESS.COM, please investigate and propose fixes

It happened to me too, and of course I stopped playing when the connection goes like that. But the game I'm in most likely I'm going to lose, and I play mostly 15/10, if I played 5 I had no chance. I was indeed going to suggest that the checkboard was visible during the disconnection. So maybe the fact is that they're losing because the bad internet, not that they disconnect because they're losing.

There is no doubt there is some cheating going on. Especially when going in & out continually. I just played against [public accusations not allowed -- MOD] & he kept doing it until I called him out on it. He did it almost every move. Can it get any more pathetic than that?! Put it this way, in spite of suffering thru continual disconnects - he'd immediately reconnect w/o missing a beat. His moves were so clean & advanced that he's either a closet grandmaster popping Limitless pills. Or he is some pimple nose 300 lb geek. Never had a job. Never a girlfriend. But now he will show everybody ....

What u all think? Geek or grandmaster?

Ryanian

U say grandmaster & I gotta bridge for sale. Real cheap

I have noticed that and its always when the opponent starts to lose.

Sorry kay - but I don't like wasting my time against people cheating by using computer programs to beat opponents. Diakonia - no they are cheating by using a computer program. It's called Task Switching The most commonly used method is just task switching. They have a chess program running in the background. You make a move, on lets say, a chess game in yahoo. They switch to their chess program and make the move you made. The computer makes a move. They go back to yahoo and make the move the computer made.

Ryanian, this guy you keep accusing of cheating, wasn't. He didn't even make the best moves in that game. You fell for a simple trap and then made probably the worst moves possible after and got crushed. Get over it. I'm sure I'm not the only one sick of you 1000 rated crybabies coming on here crying cheater when you get your butt handed to you. Grow up, accept the fact that you suck and do something about it like gee I don't know, STUDY CHESS.

Pulpofeira

Agree with erik. No gee, no grandmaster. I've never found so much bitterness on losing a simple game.

Ryanian - ignore kaynight, he's just a f'in troll.  He gives people crap all the time for no good reason.

Kaynight rules!!!!!

Do not you think that connecting and disconnecting can be caused by connectivity problems? Use a modem with the slow GPRS Internet and you will have the same. If you disconnect, the clock goes on and you can lose on time. That is not cheating.

Disconnects and reconnects are caused by poor connections or people refreshing their browser, in most cases.
