Fair Play Policy

Can anyone enlighten me as to why this policy is a bit punitive? I got a message that said I get to wait 5 minutes between games because I was "stalling". I would like to correct them on that matter for the very reason that I couldn't be at fault as a result of something I had no control over. You can't change the signal strength to "no connectivity" while you are in the middle of a game; I don't think it is even possible to change the signal strength at will. The connectivity on my laptop has cost me several games and I'd just like to say that the Chess.com administrators should cut some slack. There are other players in the Chess.com community other than myself that have had problems with their connection-I have played people who had the same dilemma.

The "slack" is you can friend each other and challenge without waiting.

The answer you provided may have aided someone who has a strong connection, but this is a continuous problem while I'm playing or trying to challenge someone. As I'm playing it just informs me that my connection has been disrupted; if it happens to stay disconnected too long despite my efforts it claims that I abandoned the game. I can't control that. There are some instances where it reconnects and returns me to my game, but that isn't too often.

The answer you provided may have aided someone who has a strong connection but that just isn't the case for me. I could be at the start of or in the middle of a game and it would say that my connection has been disrupted. When it stays disconnected for too long it would say I abandoned the game and thereby crushing any possibility of "friend"-ing my opponent. If it ever reconnected and got me back to my match, it would just do it again. So what would YOU recommend I do? The connectivity has nothing to do with what I'm doing.

I'm playing via a wireless connection that my laptop can reach. It has a shaky connection  at times and I've been marked for "stalling"; that "stalling" was because of my wi-fi connection trying to reconnect.Yell

Yes the fair play policy is annoying, and you stay with that 5min waiting limit for a while. I only abort games when my challenge is accepted by new players/lower rating players; penalizing me for that is dumb.

I haven't violated the Fair Play Policy....yet, but I have a feeling I will with my shaky connection and chess.com starting games automatically that I do not have time to play.  (these both might be classified as my fault since chess.com doesn't control my internet and I do not know if the automatic new game is a bug or my doing some erroneous thing)  Anyway I never really had a big problem with people aborting if they didn't want to play me and having to wait a while for a win is a minor inconvenience at worst.  I don't like it the current Fair Play Policy but I don't really have any suggestions on how to improve it so....I guess I can't really complain too loudly until I come up with a counterproposal for chess.com.

Not trying to be rude, but if your internet connection is that bad why are you playing?

When is this going to be lifted? I had the 5min waiting limit yesterday, and i still have it today. What's up?

In in Live Chess in your New Game tab, on the Rating Option, you can set it there as to who can (what ratings the opponents must have) accept your challenges.

This way you decide which games you get so you won't need to abort them.

You should now be able to play.

Connecrning what UnratedGamesOnly said:

I play on Chess.com despite my shaky connection for the very reason being I enjoy playing chess. Yes, it becomes irritating, but there are those days when the connection isn't so poor that I can play without many limitations attributed to the signal. I hope that answers your question.
