Flashing Clock and Disconnect

Sort:

The timer was flashing for me and stuck. I waited 10 minutes still flashing and then went to the home page where it says I lost. Really annoying. I've sent a complaint to customer support again.

This is happening to me and my wife a lot recently, almost every game. I’ve been keeping an eye on the timers and quickly restarting the app when I notice but it’s still catching me out, especially on short games or towards the end. Highly annoying. I’ve reached out to support, fingers crossed 🤞

I am new here (level beginner) and game works well only on PC, connected to cable. On android phone (wifi) it constantly showing warning almost every move, even signal is good. I got disconnected many times in 60 minute match when time to reconnect is 3:00 minutes - but obviously game don't wait these 3 minutes only less than 1 minute and bammm... You lost game. I don't even swap to other apps etc, this is unplayable.

Also my account got some restrictions now, due to rules violating (lol), I assume because "i abandonned" too many matches in advanced stage. This is comedy, hard to believe but developpers of this game are punishing me for their own mistakes (bad optimalisation of game or other faults).

And another complaint. When will chess.com act on it’s problem with time glitches?

just happened and i was able to connect to this forum while my game had crashed. How is it that i can connect to the chess.com forum, yet my game dc

I'm not convinced that it's a bandwidth problem. For me the answer was to change browser (from Safari to Opera on a mac). No issues since...  (100s of games)

Had this issue for abit on mobile. My fix was to force the app to restart by closing it and opening it again. The latest iOS update for the app says that there is an attempted fix for this bug.

My account is still blocked for fake reason "violations of our sportmanship policy" - I played like 15 games online (beginner level), no any chatting, no any cheating - playing with engine etc, but  in 1/3 of my games I was disconnected.. Support doesn't respond from one week. I registered on Lichess, no any problems so far.

same, it cost me the win. perhaps it could be to do something with the wifi? because when I reconnected I had "high lag" and "abandoned the game"

I received the following from customer support:

We have some members who reported the same concern and they informed us that they were able to resolve the issue by clearing their app's cache when they have played a lot of live games.

To clear the cache and data of the app:

Important: Settings can vary by phone.

  1. Open your phone's Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps & notifications.
  3. Tap See all apps And then the app And then Storage.
  4. Tap Clear storage or Clear cache. If you don't see "Clear storage," tap Clear data.
    • Clear cache: Deletes temporary data. Some apps can open slower the next time you use them.
    • Clear storage: Permanently deletes all app data. We recommend trying to delete from inside the app first.

paul7218 – this is not helpful if one is not playing from an 'app' and doesn't advance the situation. I play from a browser on a mac, so it's a bit of a red herring. I don't quite buy into the bandwidth answer either, as it does not explain why the clocks both flash (surely indicating that something is wrong, but also that chess.com are able to communicate that) or why this always seems to resolve in a 'loss'. These answers are yet to be forthcoming.

winmark66 - I agree, I play mostly on pc so this advice isn't much help to me. I just posted what they said in case it helps someone. I think the problem is their servers and the way they transfer data. There seems to be a large increase in players taking up the game during the last 10 months and I suspect they are struggling to cope at peak times.

I just had this happen to me.  I reloaded the web page and was suddenly connected, just in time to find out my opponent won because I had abandoned the game sad.png ... and I know I had internet because of other apps running in the background. . . .

It happens to me too, especially when I'm winning ... or so it seems

@donp111: that beats everything. First they have a bad connection and then they reproach you poor sportsmanship! Il faut le faire!

There are biases in these statements; it does not always happen when you are winning, most likely you don't care about the one's in which you were already losing in. Connectivity issues when having good wifi most likely happens when there are lots of people playing in live chess at the same time and later you lose connection to the live chess server.

In many bullet games I've had in the past, I would lose 30 seconds at a time when the clock flashes, but I don't think it is an issue with the site

thejoker9000

wtf it just happened to my game. Could reach every other aspect of the site. What is this!?
