i lost a game through service interuption.. i was wondering why it would be a loss unless i resigned or lost in another fashion.i was disconnected because of an add ,so i refreshed the page ,by the time i came back it was over...

You lost the game because unfortunately there are people who disconnect on purpose when they are not doing well.

It's the internet. You will always get rotten apples trying to take advantage somehow.

Besides, i wouldny worry too much about the rating online. It is never going to be that accurate, as far as i can gather from the numerous topics about it here, anyway.I try to see it more as something that adds to the fun, rather than any true indication of how good (or not) i am at chess.

I joined over 2 years ago, and it was a problem back then too.

Rating matters here. I learnt chess on this site perfectly, n i played my first ground board chess in early January dis year. I won perfectly in less dan 10 mins against a more experienced opponent. I think learning the game more is d main aim of this site. @Lubster, Im sorry for disconnections problem. I have lost alot of game due to my bad server but it must b a lost. Keep learning even wen u loose games

Ratings don't matter??  Baloney.   People on this thread are just saying that to avoid having to face a ratings loss for something that isn't their fault.

Should disconnects be allowed without some penalty?  No way.

I am new here but the numbers of players who disconnect when they are about to lose or when I make a particularly good move is just plain ridiculous.  At least this place allows one to win against such fickle opponents (for whom the rating doesn't matter of course LOL).
