First one to send me some Chicgo pizza gets my 2590 points and a hug?
gg is arrogance
In all fairness, persisting to misinterpret what 99,984 % of the gaming communities of the world consider to be a friendly comment regardless of win or loss is a much stronger candidate to being beyond hope ;) It's a simple polite handshake, "thanks for the game", in an otherwise very anonymous gaming environment, especially when played on the phone where the chat is a tucked away tiny icon and easily missed.
Trust me, as an online gamer for many, many years, if you were to make a statement of "gg" being offensive in any other gaming community, people would just shake their heads. This is where people's general interpretation of online communication originates, same as with all caps meaning yelling, lol, afk, smileys etc. You can't just from a corner of the world decide that these things mean something completely different just because you happen to interpret them that way. In the rare occasion that someone were to actually mean to offend, as such it still fails as most people would simply consider it to be a friendly comment (which is what I meant with "who cares").
Also, if this is so offensive to you, why not just simply ask whenever anyone is saying "gg" to you what they mean? I would bet good money on how many times you would be surprised at their friendly intentions, given that it was asked equally friendly of course.
After checking out the links first supplied by fyy0r it is clear that you have no idea what your talking about.

Oh what the hell then, lets go there shall we: Considering the fact that you are continuously rude in your replies to me, calling me beyond hope and clueless, even though I have been friendly and explaining in my posts, pretty much proves that in the matter of the "gg" debate you have only yourself to blame for being offended. Or as Cystem_Phailure so eloquently wrote in response to the links:
"Wow. Clearly overanalyzing is a more appropriate term than microanalyzing. It's still people looking for any explanation they can to convince themselves they've been insulted. Not surprisingly, such people "find" insults aimed at themselves all the time. They deserve whatever irritation they get from their own misinterpretations."
I wouldn't be surprised if you end up in this kind of arguments over your own misinterpretations quite frequently. This topic has 37 pages of posters mostly stating that "gg" is and have always been a friendly courtesy after a game. Yet you persist even on a level of being offensive as if there was not even grounds for debate about it.
As for the links you are quoting, we're really approaching a meta level as you are quoting links where people are doing the very same thing as yourself in this thread, a minority of players that are wrongly offended make a post about it and either get a handful of followers or reply after reply of people telling them that "gg" is friendly courtesy. Although there are occasions when it could be interpreted as arrogance, this is still only a matter of interpretation. It's beyond all logic that you could ever prove what the "gg" poster actually meant. They could still mean nothing but friendly courtesy and simply only be timing it wrong. They could be (rightly so) thinking that "gg" is a courtesy response after a game, as no matter where you would look up the meaning of "gg" in gaming contexts, it would predominantly most often state "good game, something that online gamers write in courtesy after a game". A subject to interpretation in certain occurrences? Yes, it can be. But still nothing but interpretation, as opposed to if a player would write "bg" (bad game). You choose to interpret it negatively, well that's your prerogative.
"No idea what I'm talking about" you say? Well alright, lets go there too then. As for the origin of "gg", I personally have hundreds of thousands of rounds in online games over the past 16 years starting with Quake in 1996 and networked games years before that, about 20 years of active experience of networked gaming. Yes, I am a total geek. Since then I've played probably a thousand or so of various online and multiplayer games. I'm a server admin (game host) and the number of times I've seen "gg" as a courtesy response couldn't even be counted. What about the number of times I've seen "gg" be questioned? Easily counted and always pertaining to certain circumstances as well as overwhelmed by people declaring that for the most part "gg" just means "good game" and nothing much else to it folks. And as obvious, you can always google and find 50 people who agrees with you whatever the issue may be. Eating used car tire rubber good for digestion? It's probably there.
Wow.... this was the first time ever I had to write a resume over my geekyness
However and with all due respect, at this point I'm pretty sure that nothing I or anyone else could say would convince you of the pointlessness of beating yourself up over people saying good game to you, but I can assure you that if we ever end up playing a game together I will be saying "gg" to you as well if the game was good. And no offense will be intended ;)
CystemFailure means failure-and this guy quotes him?
Robman means to rob a man and I am supposed to trust your judgement?

This thread just won't die. Someone drive a big juicy steak through it's heart. It's just plain stupid to argue over 37 pages about two letters. If gg irritates you then suck it up and quit complaining.

I have won, lost, and drawn hundreds of rl tournament games in my lifetime. And, (with one exception,) all my opponents have had the basic decency to reach their hands across the board at the conclusion and tell me "good game." Regardless of the actual result of that game. Its simple sportsmanship.
I second that command. If only I could stop typing. Damn, i did it again. And again... Oh FFS... (Fields of Fervent Sunflowers)

once a guy said "good game" to me after a terrible game and i ate his children. then i went to denver and this dick called rob served me coffee and extra towels. but the service was slow. i was faking my english accent.

I always type GG after a Live chess game, even if I lose, which is about half the time (hence, my 1200-1300 avg. rating in Live chess).
What really pisses me off, though, is that there are a bunch of cheaters using the hacks from CoD: MW2 to cheat in CoD: MW3. You know it's taking place when you hear Javelins going off like crazy, or they get a Hind, an AH-6, and three package drops all at the same time. Also, when you get taken out, you watch their kill-cam, and see that they shot you before you ever even saw them. It just ruins the whole idea of trying to have fun. It even takes place in the Barebones maps. Ah, well, what can one do?

Punkbuster don't bust the punks like the punks bust the games, try some BF3 on the Metro map, HC, hackerfest galore... Speaking of that, i wonder if there are any hackers on Chess.com? It's serverside and as a game obviously difficult to cheat in, but anyone could set up an identical game getting computer based responses to moves. Now there's something that would make "gg" a laugh
Chicago style pizza kinda stinks. New York style is where it's at.
Chicago dogs on the other hand... mm....... good stuff.
