How do you challenge someone to a live chess game?

JazzTChess

I tried it, but nothing appeared to happen...

Snar

it only works if they are online at the same time

JazzTChess,

Did you ever figure this out. I've got friends that I'd like to play live chess with but when I log into live chess I don't see anyone's name. Still trying to figure this one out.

JazzTChess

Not yet, but I have not had a chance to spend time on it.  When I log into live chess, see friends listed as online, and challenge them, nothing happens.  I have not yet tried scheduling it beforehand.  They could be online but not able to respond because they are in the middle of playing a match.

Has anyone figured this  out  .. this seems to be a random match

you can only play with your friends on chess.com .. while you are on the playing screen .. the left part shows the chessboard while the right part has two divisions .. in the lower section, there are 5 tabs .. select the tab - "friends" .. now, you see your friends who are online .. when they finish their respective matches, the "watch" option changes to "play" .. click and select the match type to challange your friends ..

That's exactly my question. I have a few friends I would like to play with and even though and can go to their house and play, it would be much simpler to just play them over the internet.

The only thing I have found yet is some kind of postal game and you have 24hours to make a move, which is lame, I just want to play a 15 minute game

Go onto the Live Chess page, then look for the Friends tab option on the bottom right quarter of the screen.  Then click on a friend and challenge them.

If your friend is not expecting a challenge, they might see your challenge or they might start another Live game before seeing it.  I don't think that you can tell the difference between them not seeing the challenge and then not wanting to play.

On the other hand, if your friend is expecting the challenge because you have planned ahead and are both expecting to play each other in Live chess, it works great.

Try what I suggested in the comment two above your question.  It worked for me and at least one other person, so it might work for you too.  I hope it does!
