I am against (tournament) abortion.

Tournament abortion that is.

In the live tournaments why does this site allow the games to be aborted once the tournament clock has reached 0?

Please let us continue the game. Okay don't count it as part of the tournament points but at least let's get rated for it.

1. This will discourage players from sitting on the clock and waiting for the tournament to auto abort when in losing positions and 1 move away from mate (this happens a lot!)

2. I've wasted 10 minutes on a game the least you can do is let me play it out, I thought this was a chess website after all.

3. Other competitive chess websites that have arena format allow the games to be completed after the arena has ended.

I genuinely don't see a downside to this and I have no idea why it hasn't been implemented.

Maybe someone else could shed some light.

I thought child abortion or something lol

lol, you got me with the title. I totally agree on tournament abortion. I would even go further and say that those games should be counted. Even when the tournament clock ends, if a game is in session then its result should apply to the standings.

Clearly you guys are not talking tournaments and are talking about Arena.

In tournaments, all games go to the end (mate, resign, draw agreed, flag, etc) and if you sit in a lost position, you will lose on time.

If you don't want game aborts to happen, simple solution:

1. Play tournaments, not arena events

2. If playing an arena event, and there is less than double the time left, do not start a new game unless you can win in a shortened time!  For example, if it is 5 0, and there are 8 minutes 46 seconds left, only start a game if you think you can win using less than 3 minutes 46 seconds of your time (he stalls 5 minutes, he flags).

Well it's under the Tournament dropdown, but yes I was referring to Arena matches.

1. Yes I could just not play arena events, however there is a simple solution that an opposing chess site uses so I don't see why chess.com can't do the same.

2. Like I said though this is a chess site. I'm here for the game. If I've put time and effort into a game i'd like to play it to completition.

I really don't think it's asking a lot and not sure why anyone would be against it.

^^ I agree with this. If you're winning and the game gets aborted, you also get robbed of a potential rating gain.

If you someone is aborting a lot chess.com will ban that member forever. If someone is in tournament in losing position he is going to wait until tournament ends if the member do this three time chess.com will ban him forever.

Say aborting, not abortion. Abortion is closer to the term of abandonment of a child, aborting, I feel sounds closer to aborting a game of chess.

Yes, @Chesscom thats the dumbest thing I saw on this website, I was completely winnning against a guy in a tournament, suddenly the tourney ended and the game got aborted (My opponent forfeited)

Avatar of rishabh11great

Also I was once playing a 30 min game, 10 mins after starting the game I got that banner that the server is gonna restart in 40 mins, I was completely winning and suddenly the game got aborted, (I couldnt even analyse it sad.png) NOT FAIR!!

Avatar of rishabh11great

My point is that if in live chess (non tournament game) starts before the alert, it shouldnt be aborted!

Avatar of KovenFan

I am against abortion too.

Avatar of rishabh11great

And yes I dont mean that normal abortion (aborting in non tournament games BEFORE THE 1st move) coz thats completely fine and not a problem.

Avatar of rishabh11great

yep, how is my suggestion?

Yeah sorry the title is kind of clickbaity, I'm not sure how to change it. But I'm just hoping someone changes it soon. I'm yet to see a player oppose this view so not sure why chess.com don't implement it. Unless they plan to when they release an updated version of their site?

Are you actually against Abortion of fetuses though? Very important topic....definitely not trying to derail...believe me...believe me.

Sorry to say, this is not a place to talk about all that. You can use Off-Topic for that.
