Don't worry, it's just an army to get Gibraltar back.

Phantom_of_the_Opera

look, it won't be solved... u have to be able to play with either color.  try going to an OTB tournament... u can't even cancel a game if the opponent is higher rated or your given the white pieces! isn't this evil? heartless? oh wait, its  part of the game... wish chess.com would adjust "THESE" features and give the trolls something to actually complaine about

Do you thrive on stupidity?

I am just fed up. The matching algorithm in this website is just utter rubbish. I keep getting the white pieces, and I am just tired of this nonsense. It seems to me that my opponents are given an unfair advantage. They know what I played so they can react properly. As white, I am in zugzwang and, no matter the move I play, I will be making concessions to black. Also, the black pieces look better than the white ones, so, apart from the psychological advantage of not having to decide first, my opponent also has an aesthetic advantage. It is just unfair, if this is not solved properly, I may leave the website. Chess is interesting, but having the white pieces is just taking all the fun of it.

No please don't leave the website! you are such a good friend don't leave me here stay on the website sad.png  cry.png. I have 1 suggestion though...

You can play rated daily games and you can ask to be black. If it's on live, like what aln67 said, it's a 50/50 ratio. Sometimes I be black when I wanted to be white, so we sorta have the same problem. If this continues occurring to you then I think it's time for you to practice playing as white.

I understand what kind of post this is but the solution is to play unrated and only put out seeks as black. Problem solved

Well, I don't know how I could help you. I don't know, maybe the best solution is to get rid of all those white pieces? Like, maybe just start going around, destroying white pieces like those cruel people aligned with racism and slave—

wait don't do that

"...the psychological advantage of not having to decide first..."

If you are serious about this, it means you are not approaching the game in the way that, on average, allows White to win about 5 of every 9 games (counting draws as .5 wins).

I used to have the same problem, except with the Black pieces. With White I would go 2-0, 3-0, or 2-1 in a 5-game OTB tournament but 0-2, -0-3, or 1-2 with Black.  It wasn't normal to lose so often with Black so I knew my approach to the game must be wrong.  I learned I was wrongly thinking I could play mostly defensively with Black, I finally realized you MUST threaten your opponent and give yourself enough space to maneuver.  I suggest that you look at your approaches with White, and the following may help:

You should choose openings that force your opponent to react to YOUR threats and you can do that much more easily as White than as Black.  You don't have to play the same moves every game.  You can order your moves as White -even if some are non-book moves- so that you can use the four general attacking plans Fred Wilson lists in his excellent Simple Attacking Plans:

I have come to believe there are only four essential, even primitive, concepts which you must learn and understand in order to play successful, attacking chess - Fred Wilson

  1. In the opening, whenever justified, relentlessly attack the weak squares f7 or f2.
  2. Most successful kingside attacks are directed against the squares h7 or h2, and they are often preceded by eliminating or driving off its defender. Corollary: most successful attacks require a long queen move.
  3. If your opponent’s king is trapped in the center, make every reasonable effort to open and dominate the e-file, and sometimes the d-file also.
  4. If possible, point all your pieces at your opponent’s king.

How do you approach the opening? When a National Master gave a talk to the excellent high school team I coached, my players were amazed when he said his favorite opening was any opening that led him to a playable middlegame.  THAT is the key: try to get to a middlegame where YOU are making threats.

I don't play an opening thinking it's going to win the game for me, I'm thinking it will get me to where I can win the middlegame.  I choose openings where my moves threaten and disrupt my opponent and that tend to lead to positions where I can plan a middlegame attack.  For example, with White the Bishop's opening, Vienna Game, and some attacks against the Sicilian involve castling long, then launching a Pawn Storm on the Kingside.  As Black, the French Defense, Caro-Kann Defense, and Slav Defense often launch a Queenside attack beginning with ...c5.  In all cases, I use Wilson's four principles to guide my plans.
