iPAD iPhone bug? Does not show opponnent's move!

Anyone else run into this?

I'm playing a live game on ipad or iphone, usually 10 min. Game shows my move, then opponent's time running down.  My time is not ticking down.

Then, after time runs out or after a few minutes, I lose!

Happens when I don't have great connection, I understand.  However, when it reconnects, it SHOULD give me an accurate view of the game.

It should not "deceive" me into thinking my opponent is still thinking, when in actuality, he/she moved already, but I don't see it. Then I lose because I never had a chance to move! Not because of bad chess moves (which is how I lose other games! LOL!).

My last bug game on ipad I tried connecting to my live game with my laptop, trying to "reset" it so I could play it out. But by that time it showed that I lost (and a game I know I had very good chance to win! LOL!). Frustrating.

Sorry you're having trouble with the site! Are you using the app or a mobile browser?

Raycostello14

I am using the app.

This happens to me constantly with the ios app, usually 1-3 times a night, and on most nights is the reason I end the night's chess session. It's been a problem since the first time I used the app, perhaps one or two years ago.

If you could restart the app (which shouldn't take more than 30 seconds total), it would be ok. As it is, the game is not recoverable once the app closes (which is frustrating also when the app outright crashes, another fairly common occurrence).

It's so frequent that I've learned to recognize it. I usually explain to my opponent that the app has stopped working and that I cannot continue playing, usually offering a courtesy draw or resignation depending on how the position looks.

Happens to me much too frequently using an iPhone. What I do is press the top right button, wait for the red bar that says " slide to power off, then I press the top button once again, powers back on, and go to the Chess.com app. It usually informs me that I have lost Internet connection, so, I erase my username and password and retype my username name and re enter my password and then it let's me in. I press live games and then it usually downloads the game from the point that I evidently lost Internet connection and allows me to continue the game. By then, I have lost three or more minutes on the game and I usually lose a 10 minute rated game on time alone with a winning position. Very frustrating and quite upsetting, but I still love Chess.com. This site is without question, the best chess app ever developed in so many ways. Just wish the app problem / freezing up / wouldn't be happening. As a premium member, I enjoy the many other great things this app offers. When playing a Standard 30 minute game sometimes I can afford to lose those minutes and still manage to win the game. This has been happening to me for over a year now. Forget the Blitz games as if it occurs you will never have time to disconnect and reregister to resume the game. You will most certainly lose on time alone. Hope this helps other iPhone users of the app. Happy Holidays

Version 7.0.4 (11B554a), Safari, does not tell that I have lost Internet connection. I find out only when I return to the site. In fact, everything looks normal and then I realize that my opponent is taking way too much time making their move / that's when I power off my iPhone and learn that it was my turn upon retuning to the Chess.com app. Clock shows that it's my opponent whose time is running down when in fact it's mine. Hope this helps you help us. Happy Holidays

Thanks for the quick reply zapped. Have you tried downloading the actual Chess.com app via the app store to see if that improves your experience at all?

And Happy holidays!!

This just happened to me as well. Apple iPad gen 3 , iOS 7. I made a move and then watched as my opponents clock ran down. Except then he started chatting that he was waiting for me. So chat was working fine but the move wasn't. Then all of a sudden, his move appeared and six minutes dropped from my clock. Then I moved again, and watched his clock start to run down again, and then all of a sudden it said I lost on time. Even though my screen said I had over 3 mins left. Frustrating.

What version of the iPhone/iPad do you have? iPhone 4 and ipad 2

What type of connection are you using? High Speed Internet cable or cellular (happened more with cellular connection)
