I've lost almost 100 in 3 days. What should I do?

Recently I got to 1475 rapid but I've lost almost every game since 3 days ago. I used to be better at chess and I can't keep losing. I study tactics and endgames but I'm getting worse and worse.

Chess_Player_lol

take a break from chess, enjoy your time away, and then come back and play some games.

remember that chess is a mental game and if you are frustrated, tired, distracted, etc you will play worse. Also chess is suppose to be fun, if you arent having fun then it might be best to stop playing.

Yeah i agree with the person above. I had a very long losing streak and so I took a similarly long break from chess and when im back im trying to get back to my old elo now

Thank you for your help, I really appreciate it. Taking a short 2-3 break has helped me regain my rating.

Best advice I've gotten is that everyone's rating fluctuates. When I was in the 1400 range my rating dipped over 100 points two or three times before I finally managed to cross 1500. Don't stop studying. Analyze EVERY SINGLE GAME. Find out what you did well and what you could have done better. Don't play too many games! Fatigue sets in and suddenly you're playing at sub 1000 level again. Better to playe fewer high quality games than a bunch of messy ones.

But the most important thing I've learned and my coach drills this into my head all the time: You are not worse because you've tilted. You lose 100 elo but are you really a worse player? Nahhh. If a grandmaster loses 100 ratings points are they not a grandmaster anymore? Nope. They're just going through a rough patch with their games. It happens to everyone. All the time. Embrace it. Admittedly I'm still working on that myself, but it is objectively true.

If you have any questions feel free message me. I'm looking for study partners in my range.

Good luck buddy

Not much fixes that except taking a break. Do something else for a bit. Take it easy.

I should take my own advice lol

Play against opponents that are more equally matched to you you’re probably playing against people with higher ELO don’t be hard on yourself accomplish what you can even if it’s just doing puzzles take pride in your game

Nah bro I lost 400 Elo in bullet and blirz

Just do what I did: turn off ELO. Problem solved. Now everyone has the same skill level.

You turned off the British rock band Electric Light Orchestra?

Otherwise, your comment doesn't make much sense.

OK. That was nothing short of brilliant! But I'm guessing what @magipi is saying is lost on the vast majority here...

I find my ability and rating go in strange phases. Without doing much different I can very between the high 1500s and middle 1700s at Bullet (which I play more than other formats because it's quick and I play mainly for fun). My own learning is:

1) For flip's sake do not play tired or angry or emotionally unsettled. Or for that matter having sampled Boozo the Wonder Drink overmuch.

2) If you start on a losing streak, walk away. You'll get emotionally unsettled trying to retrieve it and just lose more. Stop. Take stock. Come back another day.

3) Beware of thinking, "just one more game". The "one more game" in question doesn't usually go well. For me, anyway.

4) Spend at least as much time reading about chess and learning as you do playing. I put my current burst of form down to having started playing through old games from my old copies of BCM not to me suddenly becoming extra-sapient. For me, learning from whole games has always been a more useful thing than doing it by isolated examples of game components.

5) Know Thyself (see 4)

6) Ignore any and all advice which does not appeal to or seem to work for you. Including mine.

Good luck.

take a break

this are the rules that i follow to overcome the depression of being a sad moodist when i loose alot.

First is to always remember never play for win , or even loose.

Secound the opponent also playing for the win , so sometimes you enjoy , sometimes they enjoy and you cry .

Third always play till the end, untill opponent checkmates you. If you down a peice and opponent attacking, by defending you learn alot . Chess is about waiting for opponent mistakes, let them make mistake , even you down a peice , when they make mistake you attack.

This basic rules also applies for real life , dont be too sad when you loose , dont be too happy when you win , both have consequences.

When you quit in middle of marathon you loose, but if you run that marathon till end even loosing have satisfaction.

Don’t worry about losing 100 points. The bullet, blitz, and rapid ratings are unreliable and vary widely.

if your skill level is truly 1400, you can expect your online rating to vary between 1300 and 1500. So if your peak rating was 1465, your actual skill level is likely to be lower.

the most stable ratings are OTB ratings for classical chess.
