Leaving the time running instead of resigning

happened to me today on a 30 minute game... the guy actually told me after two moves "bye bye". I said "Are you done playing"? The guy said "yes"...but the clock kept running. I politely asked him to resign and he sent me a smile and said "i'm not doing that"...he refused to resign and refused to accept my draw...and I had to let the clock run out before I could start another game. Definately frustrating to deal with.

I have ran accross this myself before. Just the other day, I had a clear win My clock was at 7 minutes, my opponents clock was at 8 minutes. My opponent said "You got me, you win" in the chat window. I was up a whole rook in a great position.

I went in the other room to get a pop, and came back 2 minutes later still no resign... so I just sat there and watched the clock... when my opponents clock hit 1 minute, he decided to make a move.

I replied in less then 5 seconds, and immediately he resigned.

What was he doing? It was simply a tactic of trying to swindle me out of a win by getting me to run out of time by going afk.

That's a retard. I know some guys like this... Just wait and you will see how they will go to their mommy and cry : "MOMMY I LOST THE GAME , I'M A FUCKING FAT ASS KID!". Never seek for 3 Hours game , because you will meet a retard like this...

You guys think it's annoying on live chess? I've had a guy do this to me two nights in a row on the 45 45 pool at ICC. And you can't noplay in the pool :(

Nearly every day in live chess I come across some idiot who thinks it would be a fun idea to leave the time running and not show me the decency of resigning.

I want to know how big of a thing this is, because I have asked multiple times to get something done about this and I'm beginning to be simply ignored at this stage.

The mods on live always say the same thing - that they have to give these idiots the benefit of the doubt and leave me out in the rain. Games that have 10 minutes left on the clock sometimes are just abandoned with a clearly lost possition and I'm told I'm just going to have to wait until the ass on the other side decides that I can finish the game. Its pathetic. The mods on live chess need to stop protecting these fools and close the game when its clearly lost.

Let me know if this happens to you much, I'm beginning to really think its just me.

And you did the same to me when you had a completely lost position... Talk about double standards and whining on the forum when you do the exact same thing... On top of that you abused me when I just pointed this irony and never said a single abusive word... Just grow up buddy...

Perhaps he learned to like it, so he started using it himself. :-)

I've had this situation before.

IsospinSymmetry

and yeah there is another kind of annoying opponent. they purposely use inappropriate to curse you when they lose or when they beat you. i met them before, and they kept cursing me. but they never get banned for abuse of language. does the mods really cares about it??

harpo23

maybe Iam the unlucky guy but i happens to mer that some one in the middle of the game they just leave. tghese people should not be playing on line. No class

Chess players resign when they do not wish to continue playing for whatever reason. Thats just what they do.

If your ego problem is such that you can't do this, please go away, and try another game because we don't want you and we don't need you on this site.

These players stall on purpose hoping you will resign. It is frustrating because they waste everyone’s time.

I thought it would be because of some streak, not wanting to resign because they're too cocky or something
