Those issues haven't bothered me much but I can see your point.
To add my "it would be nice..."
When an opponent has disconnected, it would be nice if there was some alert sound when they reconnect. If I am waiting for them to reconnect or for the game to time out, I usually open a new browser window and check a news site or attend to other things than staring at the currently dead game board.
