Other reasons are are to tell your opponent that you (me) just made the stupidest move possible, and oh eff moment, and it will probably cost me the game. Humility. Not pride.
Message To People Who Disable Chat
You get responses, like “Trust me, I know how it feels” or “Been there done that.” I get the feeling that people that are mean in comments are probably mean in their personal lives too, arrogant, condescending, and full of themselves, and probably everyone, except their mother, despises them behind their back! Maybe even her too! As to those that the chat is open until they lose, screw it. You were never going to meet them in person or be their friend anyway. A lot like FB, which I left on 4/1/18 as they did nothing toward disinformation and divisiveness being spread across the planet. I was kind of surprised to stumble into these chat rooms by accident. A lot like the egregious side of FB.
And some people just want to play chess and talk to no one. Their prerogative. Respect. But don’t start the chatting then the moment you lose, x the chat. We might could discuss great moves we just made or how did you make that move you made because it sure screwed up my plan. This should be a learning forum as well. And it’s fun to play the same people to see their improvement as well as your own.

Probably true, but folks mask it in the real world because real world consequences are much more significant than online ones. The Internet is a giant disorganised social experiment and it reveals some unpleasant truths.
By your response, it would seem we agree re: internet/social media. Anonymity creates the liberty of saying whatever you damn well please which most people would never have the courage or hopefully desire to say in person. We are babes in the learning curve of all technology, but especially the internet and social media. Currently, it’s managing us rather than us managing it. I hope we wake up real soon, like yesterday, or social media is going to destroy a whole lot of what’s left that is good in the world. Well on it’s way. Look up Zuckerberg’s initial intentions with his invention at Harvard. To sow divisiveness and humiliation by pitting people against each other (specifically young women based on their looks - young, vulnerable teenage women already probably insecure, other than the attending Harvard part) and forcing a public choice. But my point is I stumble on these chat rooms by accident having left FB. They are monitoring now, as is Twitter, but way too much irreparable damage already done. I’m just surprised by this kinda being a quasi small scale version of FB. And I haven’t figured out how to get out of this thread... until just now!!!! Uncheck “follow!” I see the little black box.
There's absolutely no reason to enable chat. If you're that bothered that you can't say 'good game" during, then pm it after. Chat is distracting. I'm hoping people don't engage it or entice others to have a bad habit of yakking away like some amateur hustler. Among friends, cool, go crazy. But online? I see little reason.

As much of a reason to bump a year old topic. See, we can all be reasonable.
I’ve been burned 🔥 sooo many times by lewd or rude chat that I now disable chat much of the time. It makes me sad that a few jerks ruin it for everyone. Also, I favor the short games and as I’m not SUPER fast, literally can’t spare a second to chat. But I used to love to chat - met many of my chess friends that way.
You’ve got ten minutes, plus I confirm my moves because whew boy I’ve made some fat finger mistakes playing on my phone. As the great Antonio Banderas said in “Desperado,” “No time for chit chat.”
