Isnt are bad disabled the chat, but when you do that to laugh of youre opponent meaybe offered a draw and instead he quit

Radical_Drift

Yeah, I think people should be allowed to just do what they want. It doesn't really matter whether or not you disable chat. I would say most people here especially just want to play, and some people (me included) have had enough idiots be rude for no particular reason to justify such a course of action. I don't think it should be such a problem for you, but if it is, that's your choice. It's not everyone's choice, though.

Saying gg is what everyone says after a game. Have you ever played ottb tournaments

I play OTB. A fraction of people say "good game".

I wonder where you play?  The tournaments i have been to, only 1 time has someone refused to shake hands, say good luck, and good game.  A talk with his coach quickly lead to an apology.

In my city, chess players are friendly. Most of them hail from the professional classes and have some education. Maybe that's why they say "thanks for the game", or other such things after a game, instead of always, "good game". Usually when I hear "good game" it really was a battle where both sides had chances.

That is also being nice though. You are saying something.

It often happens that losing player would be in a bad mood and avoid talking, leaving with just a handshake, nobody takes offense about this I guess, I have seen that several times in my games.

On mobile version it is practically impossible to chat while playing, I think a lot of players disable chat while on mobile.

Always. And most of the time we go to another room and go over the game.

For those of us who care about language and who also care about the quality of our chess, words like "good game" are hard to toss around cheaply. Thanking one's opponent for the game, however, is obligatory.

Tomorrow, while running a youth tournament, I will remind the kiddos that chess is a game of skill so they should tell their opponent, "good luck!"

MasterMatthew52

A handshake is still good though but this is online. you cant do that.

And yeah, you have a point about mobile. but I dont think they disable it. at that point they just ignore it.

Samaritaine

On a scale from 1 to 10 how important is this?

Since online you can't shake a hand after a game, all you can do is write something in a chat box. Nice people say something nice : "gg" even if you totally blundered. Cool

Leela_03

I have disabled chat in online live....because of smart, rude, obnoxious and sometimes vulgar people!  We all have a right....and anyways...most of the time, no one says gg......they just move on to the next game.....and start bullying and whining around on it, lol!

Lancelot325

Just as many have pointed out earlier, there's too many rude and nasty people in live chess. i haven't chatted with anybody there so far, and people should concentrate on the game and not on the keyboard.

MasterMatthew52

there are also some really nice people.

Leela_03

There are some nice people, but very few!!!! But I want to play Chess...not to chat....about nothing, anyways.

Finally sobered up eh Kaydo! I heard you were found doing the backcrawl up Princess street when someone recognised you from a missing persons poster.

Mastermatthew I apologise if you have answered this already..... But if some1 blunders and then resign do you still say gg? Do you say that in real life after a blunder by your opponent?

Suman3

Well you can always say GB... Good blunder or great blunder, thanks a bundle! :D

edwardseungwonjeong

hm

Leela_03

ha ha ha....  there are some nice people...but a lot of not so nice..

and I really just do not like to talk while playing...it breaks your concentration.....that is really why I disable chat.Laughing
