An unintended result of this new matching system is I am tend to get the same opponents more often.
New Logic for Auto-pairing and Seek Graph!

Why customized rating range makes me wait way longer(at least 3 minutes until I get a game for 45|45) - I just don't want to play people with rating points much than mine. I set my rating range into [-20;+∞), and until that change I didn't feel any difference in search time.
Please read what Erik (site owner) said reagrding this question in the posts starting with #151. He gives and excellent explanation why it will take longer to match if you only want to play people rated higher than you.
What´s the problem Novagames, you can´t get paired?
If it´s that, then just change the -1 to -200 or erase those fields.
Thanks

I wonder if the change over all will benefit chess.com(not members) or not.:)
It will be better for people who are fair and recognize why it is important to play both up and down. It will be bad for selfish players who only want to play those rated higher than them.

I for one like the new system; especially the part about rude vs rude. I think its the only way these a****les will either stop disconnecting or disconnect permenantly. Lets face it, if you are having that many connection problems, the last thing you should be trying to do is online gaming.
I feel like those who are seeking a match that is way above their range, are likely just trying to pull out their best trap/super aggresive line in hope to grab some fake points. Funniest part is, these same people refuse to play lower ranked, how ironic!
Its simple logic folks:
Higher ranked player - risk losing 50-100, possibly gain ~10
Lower ranked player - risk losing 10, possibly gain ~100
Hmmm, what would I do if I were the higer ranked?? It may be "unfriendly" and even somewhat egotistical for higher ranked players to filter out the lower, but it makes perfect sense. Risk vs Gain, we do it every wakeing hour of our lives.
Despite how much you complain about it, playing against those close to your range is to your benefit wheather you now realize it or not. Stop trying to scam. You are not going to get anything out of being rolled over by a much stronger player and you know it!
Those complaining about long waits for custom matches need to use your brain. If its a custom time, you are waiting for a someone to see it on the graph and manually accept it, not waiting for the system. Same as it has always been except now, all regular games are not on the graph, makeing it easier for others to see the custom requests. What are you really b***hing about?
To be honest this guy has hit the nail on the head. I completely agree. You cant argue with anything he said. It is all true and it is a fairer system than before. Well said Nb4UDie

Ridiculous to think that 1200s would actually commend such a poor autoplay system. I don't care about whether I play a 2500, or an 1800 bullet player, what I do care about is getting a game quickly when I ask for it because life is short.
I think it's ridiculous to 'force' users to 'wait' for players around your rating, when it can take up to 10 minutes at times!
If people are complaining about higher or lower ranked players being cheated for points, then that is surely chess.com's fault for not implementing a fair points system in the first place.

I guess its all symatics. Many would define "Ridiculous" as for example: someone with high chess.com rating thinking they are somehow superior and have a god given right to condecend upon anyone with a lower number.
Another example would someone who spends too much time trolling the threads looking to degrade on someone or something without giving a better idea or logical debate. 5X ridiculous for saying "life is too short" while wasting their time in such trolling.
I know im supposed to be crushed by your 1200 remark but in my days we took it to the street. Thus, the cyber bullying only works for you weak minded millennials.
I was simply stating fact that at your rating, you don't have to wait for games, but at 2200+ all you face are lower ranked opposition (or rather you have to wait for players your range). If you're gonna feel rather inferior about that, then it ain't my problem.
who cares if someone quits the game early and you have to wait 3 mins for the win. that wait is only 1 game in 10. with this new way you have to wait 3+ mins before every game instead. dumb.

or its not always advice. sometimes when i make a good move i can tell they are upset because they dont move for a minute or two. then i sometimes say "dont feel bad. you did the best you could." to try to cheer them up.
but that doesnt always help for some reason either. who can say what goes on in the minds of these angry people.

also can you select the rating range still?
yes (I use chess.com in a computer, I don´t know about the app)

I'm just wondering if the new system results in a closer match between wins and losses. If you can't choose to play stronger players all the time, or weaker players, then you should win and lose pretty much the same number of games. And your own rating should sit pretty close to the rating of your average opponent.
I was just checking out my last opponent statistics and I noticed that (1) his rating and his average opponent's rating were close to equal and that (2) he was a relatively recent arrival. Hence the hypothesis.
On the upside, this may mean that there are fewer people crowing in the forums about how strong they are when they have obviously been playing weaker players to get a relatively high rating

I think the new system of matching to more closely rated players is a really good one. It's certainly helped me improve, and find better games.
Prior to this system I would try different methods (beat up on patzers rated 100 points below me), playing similar level players, and playing those 100-200 points above. The result was I never quite knew who I was going to meet, and I found my rating never really stayed above 1300 for long.
Since the new system my rating has shot up to over 1500. I'm unsure if this is more due to playing more, and more effectively, or whether it's partly to do with this rating system. I tend to think it's a bit of both...
