No Draws in Blitz?!

On multiple occasions I have come to a point where neither player can win in the endgame, or a player can force repetitions, but the game ignores them completely, so the last four minutes of the game consists only of both players moving back and forth as fast as possible. The one lower on time at the start of this frantic struggle ends up winning. If I offer a draw and they are up on time, they will just refuse, and why would anyone do otherwise?  The offer draw button ends up just being a plea for mercy and nothing else.  This seems odd and completely neglecting of skill.  Is this standard even in over the board tournaments, where only the clock matters if neither player is mated?

You can do threefold repetition and then click draw

Ah, so it forces the draw after three in stead of requesting? I see. thanks. Does it work like that for insufficient mating material?  I guess the computer probably wouldn't recognize a drawn position, so that would still be a battle of clicks.  I played a game with opposite bishops a little while ago, no chance for any progress. The other guy would just decline the draw and move fast. It's an annoying way to lose.

Yes it happens to me all the time, look this game http://www.chess.com/livechess/game?id=541483210 what a fucking idiot :|

This is what makes player's life easier on chess servers than in OTB tournaments. If there is no score (it is rarely required below 30 minutes for game) it can be problematic to prove your draw request unless the arbiter happened to be watching at your game and could see the threefold repetition.

While the arbiter might have been looking at your game at see the repetition, this is impossible without the score to prove 50 moves rule.

On a chess.com it works even in blitz/bullet games - if you press the draw button and the 50 moves rule applies you will get the draw recorded. A great weapon against unfair opponents who try to win on time while none of the players is able to make any progress.

The draw should occur automatically after three fold repitition.  Having to "request" it is silly.

This is normal in chess (not in a play against computer programs). If you play OTB you have to stop the clock and claim the draw.

There are some chess servers (e.g. kurnik.pl) which automatically record a draw after threefold repetition but the better ones try to reproduce the conditions of OTB games as much as possible. What is better is that here are no doubts about such a claim because the software keeps track of the score and can easily verify whether a position has appeared for the 3rd time or 50 moves were played since last capture or pawn push

If you encounter such unsportsman behavior opponent, you have the following options:

1. draw by 3-time repetition
2. draw by the rule of 50 moves
3. make it clear that you are "ready to play until the morning" (if it 2|1 game for example)
4. resign and block him for the future

So where is the draw button?  After repeating the position 10 times, I should not have to hunt around for the draw button short on time.  Besides, I have had the draw declared automatically before.  Why does the app not behave consistently?

glamdring27

That was probably because your opponet claimed it.

It is consistent. A draw for 3-fold has to be claimed. Rules of chess.
