Asking or a draw on every move is harassment.

I suggested long ago. Change the programming.

You can only offer a draw once, then it's the other player's turn, then back to you and so on.

Problem solved.

It's a good idea in theory, but it could be easily abused. I would say maybe this is implemented after one side offers 3 draws. If their opponent offers a draw they get one back, but their opponent-if they haven't offered one-remains at their 3 draws, and cannot earn any until they offer 3. You could also have the amount of draws, and the way they are determined be based off of ELO range.

How can it be abused? Think.

You offer a draw. The opponent declines. Your draw button is turned off.

Your opponent now can offer a draw.

And back and forth and so on.

And if your opponent doesn't accept or decline in a clearly drawed/losing position? Wastes your time. Unless there is a limit on how long you can wait to accept/decline it before the offer goes away.

Clock time is independent of draw offer.

Now I have to explain but I shouldn't.

You moved and offer a draw. Your opponent's time runs down.

You didn't move and offer a draw, you clock is running down.

Also self explanatory. If your opponent moves, the draw offer is obviously declined.

Just like old school face-to-face chess.

A draw offer does not stop the clock.

That's not what I'm saying. I'm saying does the draw offer last for a certain amount of time before it can no longer be accepted?

It lasts until your opponent makes his move.

Why do I have to explain something so obvious, twice.

I'm sorry dawg, I had practically just woken up I'm not going to be at peak mentalness. I understood it this time though.

What gets me is:

Both players have already moved back and forth twice. I offer a draw, declined, and then the game ends in a draw anyway because the player repeats the same move.

Or:

The other player only has a king, and I'm about to run out of time. I offer a draw. Again: declined. The game ends in a draw anyway because of insufficient material + timeout.

The out of time thing isn't horrible in my opinion, some people may not realize it's a draw, and think they will win on time. Especially at lower ratings. Also, they simply might not notice the draw offer. Not that the latter really makes it less annoying, though. Personally, if I understood that they didn't know that would result in a draw, I wouldn't really be angry.

seems to me it's the last desperate act of an already psychologically defeated player. Its a last gasp. Enjoy it. Its the chess equivalent of pleading for mercy.

Now, are you saying us losers should just play out a losing position instead of resigning? I do get your point however, Ask-for-a-draw-after-every-losing-move people, while rare, are very annoying.

I USUALLY read an entire thread before commenting and I didn't today. But I was considering confessing to this anyway. I was behind in a game. We had been talking and joking around - very nice opponent.

So to tease him, I offered a draw. Nothing happened and then several minutes later (this was in a Daily Game), he accepted! NOOOOOO! He wasn't supposed to accept it!! I was clearly losing!!!

He did it to be nice. I felt like a total jerk. I will NEVER EVER EVER offer a draw to a winner. Sometimes lessons sting the proper amount to teach the right lesson.

#113 I think I found said game. You are at a disadvantage, but it's not really bad. Only 2 points of material. I still would've probably declined.
