Hello to all, I have a question about OTB tournaments.
I believe players in Swiss tournaments are paired based on their results, so for example winners are paired with winners and losers with losers, trying to alternate colours.
Now, in the FIDE Open section of a swiss tournaments, are players also matched by their elo as well as their previous game results?
So lets say a player with 1500 elo has won a match, the next game they will play against another player who also won, but also as close as possible to 1500 elo? Or the elo has no bearing whatsoever in pairing?
Please may I ask that only people with tournament experience answer this question?
Thank you
Depends on the exact pairing method being used.
Regular swiss list players in a score group in rating order and pair top-half against bottom half. There are rules on how odd score groups handle the odd player but that's the basics.
There are other acceptable pairing systems as well.
