opponents clock stopped

I was playing a 10min game when I guess my opponent felt he was beat because he quit making moves with three mins left but no resign. I was letting the clock run down when I hit the chat icon to see if he was communicating and when I went back to the game the clock was frozen for both players. I play on my phone so I can’t see the board and the chat. Did I mess up !! Just want to prevent same thing from happening again
