Opponent's timer ran out but I lost by resignation?

I just played a very weird game. The other person was ahead, and then they just stopped playing. I had to wait until their timer went to zero. Then it just got stuck there. I opened a new tab to look, and it showed that they had made a move and that I had lost by resignation???? I took a screen-recording at the end because the whole game was really weird, and you can clearly see their clock ran out as I waited for them to make a move. How is the review showing they made a move, I lost, and I lost points...when I literally sat there waiting for their clock to run out and didn't have the option to make a move? I'm so confused.

(Earlier in the game, it says "reconnecting" for me, which was VERY weird as my internet was working perfectly for all other tabs I tried, including chess.com. But then it showed it was reconnected, and my opponent's timer still continued down to zero as you can see.)

Sounds like you lagged out for too long and it forced you to resign. It’s an awful feeling to lose rating when it’s not your fault.

I would understand if the screen showed that (even though that's ridiculous since my internet was working perfectly for every other tab). But I had to sit there and wait about 10 minutes for his timer to go to zero, wondering why he stopped playing, only to find out it was some weird glitch and I lost. So frustrating.

Yeah. Random disconnections are the worst. Whenever my opponent is taking an unusually long time to move I always reload the page and that typically saves the game.

Omg I can reload? I always assumed that would end the game, so I didn't try. Thanks!

Yes. It actually says on the info page that the game was terminated on abandonment, not resignation. This basically meant that you were disconnected from the game for too long and so it ended. You can read more here.
