Besides that, what is the difference? You attempting to bother them by typing in stuff all the time? Blocking chat shouldn't matter.
players who block chat

I block chat. The reason is that chat is distracting. If I want to play chess, I come to this site. If I want to chat, I go to Facebook. I don't see any reason to chat here any more than I see any reason to play chess on Facebook.

Players who block chat are the scum of the earth! But they're not as scummy as people who never say "gg." Those people are the worst! Except for people who do say "gg." I really hate those people! They're so arrogant!

I'm new and it took me a while to find out how to chat, the first few times I pressed 'chat' it took me away from the game. But how else to we say, "That was a great move!" except by chat?

Sometimes my opponents try to play mind games by saying things that might upset me so as to ruin my game. Others are just plain rude. I block all of them right away. I have noticed that some players block chat from the beginning and I respect their wishes to play undisturbed, no big deal.

Usually if someone blocks chat, I'll be quite reluctant to playing them another time. It is like someone walking into a room and refusing to speak categorically.
On the other hand: I prefer them blocking the chat over them telling me useless things or insulting me.
Yes, it is very rude to prefer to play the game without your concentration being broken by a bunch of random chatter.

Agreed. And the rules of chess agree, too, which forbid disturbing your opponent. Other than maybe an opening 'hello' -before the game begins- and/or a closing 'gg' -after the game is over- 'chat' is outside the rules. If someone wants to tolerate it, fine, but don't go trashing players who'd rather concentrate on the game.

Maybe we should help anaxagoras out by adding a botchat option.. You know, the kind of bot that auto-replies with comments like... "How ya doin big boy?" :-)

Is this supposed to be serious? It's completely lunatic! Am I missing something?

I don't automatically block chat. But I have, as in a recent live 30 minute game, done so during the game. My opponent, on three separate occasions, urged me to move more quickly. After the third instance, I blocked him. I had not played well (thanks to fatigue and too much bourbon) and was well behind in material. I was, however, ahead on time.
Ultimately, I regained material, remained ahead on time, and delivered a most enjoyable mate. (His f7 pawn was pinned -- first on the f file, later on the 7th rank, and finally on the e8-h5 diagonal!!) When checkmate occurred, he had 1:04 on his clock; I had in excess of 4:00. No wonder he wanted me to move more quickly.

I iGNORE all blocks I let it RIP my.... next.. opponent reads the message gets the point and sometimes aborts the game. I REPEAT my disgust inviting Chess.com to read it.........They get the message

Some kids on this site actually have responsible parents that block all communication from other players, instead of waiting for the worst case scenario so they can complain about it on the forums.
I would prefer not to play with people who block chat. If I abort a game when I meet one of these players, I receive a warning about fair play. Please allow us to elect not to play with others who block chat.
