Polish opening - Good or Bad

I play
1. b4 ...e5
2. Bb2 ... f6
So I usually win against it. This is why it's so difficult to play. I only ever got one person who knew how white should handle it and he didn't get it right either.

It isn’t really good. This trap happened to me once, but I would recommend you don’t play this opening. Openings should start by controlling the center. e4, d4, c4, Nf3 (or Nc3 but it isn’t popular), g3, b3 (trying to get the bishop out to control the center), all this are examples of good openings.

What trap?

probably referring to 1.b4 e5  2.Bb2 Nc6  3.b5 Nd4 e3 when black loses a pawn.

Oh that's right the black bishop can't take the b5 pawn because white's bishop is attacking the pawn and rook. I probably should have noticed that by now. Anyways, that's an interesting trap that I might try out in a future game. Not as big and flashy as some of the others, but a pawn's a pawn.

Black's supposed to try to play well. That's not a trap.

Any trap happens when the opponent doesn’t play well. I agree that black should play better, but imagine he was 400 Elo, it will be a trap considered for his level.

Polish is hot garbage, I suggest you play the reverse polish, which is arguably the best opening.

Yes it's definitely a good opening but a bit difficult for ThrillerFan. surprise.png

Hate to be the bearer of any sort of tidings but that may be because the b pawn isn't a centre pawn.

if black books up, its probably just equal, but white's position is still fairly rich with good mutual chances and the level of familiarity and surprise can mean a lot. I have played 1.b4 vs IMs and GM's and have gotten good positions, sometimes +1 in fact. My first non-loss with a GM was with 1.b4.

I woudnt recommend you ONLY play it as white, but it can be fine addition for a white repertoire
