Hey guys

Recently started playing 10 min online games playing at 700 level (don’t take the Piss) I’m winning most games but only getting about ten points for a win. How does it all work? Do I gets less points as I’m a low level? Do you get more points for a mate?

Cheers.

It only matters if you win lose or draw, the difference between your rating and your opponent's rating and how accurate your rating is statistically judged to be.

That’s fair enough but I’m interested to know more about the points or amount of them you gain and loose depending on the win or type of win.

The type of win doesn't matter.

Winning with 8 queens,  a seven move checkmate, a smothered mate- gets no more points than a resignation or a win by time. (Assuming the side that didn't run out of time still has minimum mating material- a lone king can't win on time.)

No you’re missing my point. When I play 30 games I’m playing at 1100 odd strength and I get a lot more points for a win than I do when I play 10 min games against 700 strength players I just wonder if it differs or how it differs. How I win I don’t care!

Blitz and Rapid have different ratings and each rating type can have a different uncertainty level (rating deviation / RD) based on how many games you have played and if there is a large time gap between games. Fewer games means a larger RD and larger rating swings and gaps in time between played game can increase your RD value.

The link provided in post 2 has an explanation, along with a link to an article that goes into greater depth.

For example, your blitz RD is 51 and your rapid RD is 176.  Your rapid rating will have a lot larger changes after games than blitz, depending on the opponent's ratings and RD values.

I would get 0 points for beating you, dude. You would get a whopping 50 points (Probably) beating me. And you just might. That is why most players set a minimum rating for who they play.
