When the game ends, both players' ratings are adjusted and then immediately displayed by your usernames. Most likely it was just your opponent's new rating you are seeing.

Yes. If you take a look at his profile, he has very few games played. New accounts with few games have very big rating changes because the algorithm is trying to place them in their appropriate rating as quickly as possible. Also, if you go to his profile and check the game, the Info section does show that a loss would result in -99 rating points.
