It may be through aborting games in the first place, that you're now in Chess.com's timeout dungeon.

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: “Mankind.” Basically, it’s made up of two separate words - ”mank” and “ind.” What do these words mean? It’s a mystery, and that’s why so is mankind.

This is one of the worse features of chess.com. You start a game, your opponent accepted the game but he doesn't move. You must wait several minutes to see if your opponent decides to move or not.
Why not starting the timer automatically after the connection has been established? Your opponent doesn't move? Great, he's doing this on his own time. At the end, he loses the game even if he made no moves.
If your opponent doesn't make his/her first move in 20 seconds or so, the game times out & is aborted by the server, with negative effect to the sportsmanship rating of the non-mover.

If you are indeed seeing something different, it's a bug, not a feature.
OK, but ...
Why such a complicated rule? I play a lot 1 0 bullet and I hit the abort button when I see that my opponent doesn't move for a while.
Why not simply start the clock automatically?
For one thing, your solution offers very little relief to people playing longer time controls.

Complicated? If he does not move in 20 seconds the game is aborted. How is that complicated?
This is pretty insane. I miss the old policy of not having a policy. Now I have to wait for hours to play one game. I never left or aborted my games, but clicked the green circle, it didn't respond so I double clicked it. Little did I know out of some miracle did it pull up the games and not display them in my browser. So I'm forced to suffer your punishments implied with this policy because of a shitty internet connection at my office.

The server is supposed to abort the game in 20 seconds. The complication is...the server rarely does it that quickly.
More like a minute or two. Torture, especially if you only have a few minutes to play live chess.
I have always had mine abort as quickly as promised.
