I don't see anything wrong with any of the photographs posted here so far. And I don't see how noting that someone is physically attractive is any more offensive or unethical than noting that they are tall, have curly hair, green eyes, or are good at chess. Should I be offended if someone mentions that my son is "handsome"? Or if my daughter is "beautiful"? I think not. Creepyness, if it applies, comes not from the simple observation, but rather from the bad reputation, or vulgar comments or body language of the speaker. The context must be taken into account.

The context of this thread is a mass gathering of photos of female chess players for purposes of having people comment and share on which females look best. Notably, there are only 2 posters on this thread that I am confident are female, and both expressed their dislike of the thread. One even flat out said it was creepy.
The notion that people are just complimenting the women by sharing photos and that this should be fine is a straw man. It's the compilation and sharing (and without their awareness, to boot) that is creepy...and believe me, if you found out there was a corkboard in a hallway somewhere plastered with photos of your daughter, along with comments from all the guys that had stopped to see them and decided she was "pretty", you would also find it creepy.
But as male privilege dictates, the bunch of guys that have said there's nothing creepy or wrong about this thread win out over the opinions of those who actually should get to determine what is creepy for them or not.

Who is the Prettiest(beautiful)chess player?

Sometimes creepiness is only in the eye of the beholder.
Creepiness is determined externally, never by the perpetrator. Whom do you think should be the arbiter of whether women find something creepy?

I'm not sure who sets the rules about what qualifies as "creepy", but it does seem very subjective. IMO it doesn't seem surprising nor unnatural (nor unethical nor creepy) that the teenage boys that dominate this site are interested in discussing the physical attractiveness of the opposite gender. Even if those women also happen to be chess heroes. It's normal (as in typical) and healthy for human nature to take its course in this way. This thread is pretty mild. But I wonder if the hetero-normative aspect might be triggering anyone?

So it's "normal" for teenage male primates to have access to photos of women worldwide, and pick and choose which ones to share over a global digital network? This is something humanity as a species has evolved towards?
Your assumption at the end pretty much nails down the notion that you see things from a purely male perspective, because *of course* no normal red-blooded male could see things any other way...ergo, anyone that does not think this thread is fine must be different somehow.
Do you make the same arguments about beauty pageants? Hot-or-Not websites? Child beauty pageants? Doctors and policewomen doing calendars for charity dressed in bikinis? Do you agree with orange guys that rate every women they see and feel entitled to grab whatever? Where's your line?
Mine is that all of those things above need to go.
There's a distinction between turning to your friend and pointing out "the girl next door is cute, don't you think?" vs. then taking a photo and doing that, vs. then taking multiple photos and doing that with everyone you know, vs. then taking other people's photos that you don't even know and posting them to a popular international website and asking tens of thousands of other people to also go and look at the girl you don't even know from halfway across the globe and assess her physical attributes. The gulf between the first and the last stage is large.
Most males and many females as well go for the "well, it's fairly harmless, boys will be boys" outlook...acknowledging that it's a 'little bit' wrong, but so what? They were raised that way, but that's not really an excuse for a mature adult.
You call this thread pretty mild...it's not mild, though, it's just very commonplace. You know, like misogyny worldwide. It's a discussion, but not a healthy one, nor has this kind of thing ever been healthy...it's just been allowed. There's a difference.
The irony is that those males who don't like my posts on the thread over the years think *I* am making the thread feel creepy...guess what? That's your conscience knocking.
