That is an excellent idea. I've had a few games where I have waited 20+ minutes for the opponent's clock to run out. It is a very annoying situation because you have to keep checking to make sure they are not just waiting for their clock to get down to one minute and then moving hoping you have left.
Time Control Idea v Running Down Clock

The glaring problem I see with Alan_loy's idea is that people who run down the clock usually do it when they are losing to cause you grief and would happily hit a button every 2 minutes anyhow and this would not solve anything as the clock can easily still be run down...
I've played enough online games over the years to know how far people will go to grief other players. A minor button push will not deter these players at all......
Zylo - my idea was that the button would appear after 10mins of inactivity and would have to be pressed up to 2 mins later or the game is forfieted.
Just a second! I admit I was doing the same about 9 months ago. Once I moved 0,1sec before losing on time, and opponent left the game, so I won on time in lost position. I admit again I didn't read the rules until I saw some posts writing about that!
But now I think there's possibile to play more games simultaneously, isn't it? I'm not a member & I played bullet & blitz at the same time (it's not recommended). :) So, when you're waiting to your opponent to run out of time, you can start a new game.

I've seen other threads discuss players who run down the clock in losing positions and I was thinking of possible solutions for live chess.
For longer live chess games i.e 30 mins or more where running down the clock could mean waiting a very long time just to find the opponent as left; why not introduce an "I'm still here button" that needs to be hit after 10 mins of inactivity. If not pressed after another 2 mins the game is forfeited. Once pressed the "10 minute time" is reset.
This way players still at the "board" are letting their opponent know that they haven't left and are still playing. This makes it more inconvenient for players to leave and not resign who are maliciously spoilling and wasting someone's game and time. I'm sure courteous players wouldn't mind such a feature. Why not add it as a game option for those who would like to use it when playing thus not compelling people to have it as a feature.
Any thoughts? Or should players just man up and paitently wait for a 40 minute timer to countdown?
