Why Do I Lose Chunks of Time During a Match?

Many times, my screen freezes during a timed match (5 or 10 mins) while the site waits to reconnect.  I understand that browser/internet connections are tempermental and drop out from time-to-time.

However, frequently, I feel that my opponent is working behind the scenes to (a) freeze the match and (b) reduce my clock, at the same time.  And, yes, I am paranoid! However, as they say... that doesn't mean they're NOT out to get you!

Today, e.g., my connection timed out during an endgame.  At the time, I had 45 secs. left and my opponent ~20.

The site reconnected after a few seconds, but suddenly, I had 7 secs. left, while he still had 20.  WTF?  Frequently, this happens several times during a match. Each time, the site has deducted 10-20 secs. from my clock.

(A) I didn't cause the connection to sever and (B) it only does so for a few seconds at a time.  Why then, do I suddenly have 20 fewer secs. than I did before?

How am I supposed to win against two foes, i.e., my opponent and a demonic, clock-reducer?  Or, what hacker-gremlins are f***ing w/ my game and how do I join them!!!
