why loose games when disconected

Its surprising too! I lost my rating from 1100 to range of 10xx ..as I disconnect even though I was winning almost in a number of games...

We're sorry about all the disconnect issues that some people have. I can assure you that the tecnical staff is working dilligently to stabilize Live Chess. It's a high priority, but it's not a simple task.
The reason that you are given a loss during a disconnect is because there is no way to tell for sure if it was a disconnect because of the site, or if you disconnected yourself. If we just cancelled games that were disconnected, then anyone could just leave a game that they felt they had a losing position in, with no penalty.
To help, if you are not using FireFox three to access Live Chess, switching your browser to FireFox seems to alleviate a significant number of disconect issues with Live Chess.

IMO, enforcing a lose-on-disconnect policy is much better than the alternatives. Of course, it's always nice to have a short period to allow a re-connect.

I've never been effected by the disconnect thing, It's never happened to me once and I've played everyday for about 200 games - almost a year. It would be a bit of a downer to lose an important game though.

It is a bug and it's annoying, but believe me, if you think about it any rectification, other than moving Live chess from Beta, would be even worse.
All sorts of chancers would be claiming to have been disconnected and lost a game.
It's tough I know, but c'est la vie!
Generally speaking, if you are in a favourable position when disconnecting, how could you have done it on purpose?
I have received advice for years from the geeks to switch to firefox, but I just can't do it.

Very true, but you can picture the complaints either way!
Firefox works well, you should switch if it helps, even if it's just for use on this site.
I currently have three browsers in operation, IE, Firefox and Google Chrome, all have their pros and cons, but firefox is definitely ahead on Chess.com.

I am using Firefox and in my second game of live chess, it disconnected me. We were even on time but I was well up in the game and should have been able to win, yet I find I lost the game and some ratings points as well. Seems to me allowing say a five minute interval in which to reconnect would be a fair solution to an annoying problem. I've also noticed a problem with making moves as it seems to drop pieces one square short of where I want it go....lost my first game because it dropped my queen one square shy of where it was suposed to go, right in front of a pair of pawns, effectively defeating my fork and losing the game. Seems to be a bit of a buggy issue there as well, or perhpas it is just touchy about where you place thepiece to complete a move?

I still think chess.com should implement system such as that used on FICS.
If a game is disconnected within the first few moves, it should be aborted, with no affect on either player's rating. After the first few moves, a disconnect should result in an automatic adjournment of the game, where either play can offer to resume the game when both are online again. Staff should review the game if a player consistently refuses to resume it, and make a determination of how to adjudicate it.
Just know that some of you can will be disconnected. I get disconnect alot. I looked up all my disconneted games then I took away games that I know that I was losing, then I had 14 games 7 were even 1of the 7 I had Queen, 2 Rooks, 1 Bishop and 1 Knight and some pawns v.s. his 2 Rooks, 2 Bishop, and 1 Knight and some pawns I would have love playing this game out to see how it would have turn out I think this game I would have won, but I'll never know because of disconnection issues. Oh, as far as the other 7 games there's no dout if they would have been finished I would have won them.

This makes sense. If there could be some kind of a programming fix to allow re-establishment of the game that could work. It is disheartening to lose because of a wonky online connection. I had not really reviewed the comments on this forum about the disconnect issues and it certainly woke me up when I got disconnected a couple moves away from a mate! LOL

We are working to make the Live Chess more stable to prevent the disconnections that you may experience. Please be patient with us while we continually work to improve and further develop the Live Chess. It is a long and difficult process but we wil eventually get the Live Chess where it needs to be.

why make live chess when you get dissconected
Live chess is still in development (beta), clear warnings are given on the welcome page. You may find, as I did for a while, that disconnections were draining all the fun out of playing live chess. Then feel free to use the rest of this excellent, mostly free site. Patience is a virtue and persistence should be.

I can't really complain because this hasnt happened to me, it does note before you join live chess that it is unstable. Sorry if I sound arrogant but the only thing that upsets me (but it cant you'll see why) is for the amount of paying members and ads there should be enough money deligated to fix this problem ie new servers or paying or new javascript. So yes, If i were a paying member I would be upset but this website is truly awesome for us non consumers as well :D
