Did I just lose 150 points for aborting a game???

Is that standard?? I never noticed THAT before.....

it shouldn't happen(at least not before the 4th move):

"You can end / abort a rated game before white has made its 4th move and it won't affect your ratings"

Barefoot_Player

If your rating is provisional, then it will have wild swings until it becomes established (about 20 game).

Its interesting to note that in my decades of playing tournament chess, I've never heard any player complaing about suddenly GAINING a lot of points. ;)

You don't lose rating points for aborting. But, I might know what is going on here... are you aware that you have two separate Live Chess ratings based on the speed of the games? You can see them both on this page: http://www.chess.com/livechess/profile/WayTooMuchCoffee .

I don't expect any points that I didn't earn, but after struggling with teh software here, and pating dues by losing my first 15 games to higher ranked opponents, I didn't under stand how I dropped from 1000 to 850 inside of 30 seconds. I only aborted the game because the timer was set for 2 minutes( well OK, that and I came up playing black again)

ivandh

If you have so much more trouble playing black then you ought to be rated 850.

Did you see my previous post, you didn't drop from 1000 to 850, you have two separate ratings based on how fast the games are.

WayTooMuchCoffee

If (as far as I know) I've only played 1 style of game, why whould I have 2 different scores?

And for you folks with your snide, petty comments, I feel it speaks volumes about you if that's the way that you'd treat a new member that's asking for assistance.

Not two but three ratings.

Why are there three different ratings in the Live Chess?

heinzie

Is it possible to get to 2500 just by aborting games? If so, how awesome would it be if I did just that?

Heinzie was asking about awesome ratings, not true ratings.

For example: my true rating is 1422, but my awesome rating is over 9000.

heinzie

If you were to hit the billi jackpot it'd be 9777

ivandh

I would have gotten my last norm for a title but I had not studied enough in the challenging but theoretically drawn laser vs. laser + shark endgame.
