Gatekeeper Games in Berkley, Michigan is a game store with a big playing area and a bar. (Yeah.....a bar). They are starting to hold Chess nights on Mondays. I don't work at the store, but I'm kind of in charge of the play that night. For the moment, it's kind of club-style. If possible, we'll add USCF rated tournaments, at least for Blitz, in later weeks.
I also like Chess variants and other perfect information/abstract strategy games, so if you are interested in an Over The Board opponent for Shogi, you will be able to fine at least one at Gatekeeper on Monday nights, starting at 6:30.
No charge, but the proprietors would have no objection if you bought a drink from the bar. I highly recommend the locally brewed cider (the alcoholic kind, but of course non-alcoholic offerings are also available).
ETA: Other nights feature Euchre, Warhammer, and Magic: The Gathering. I'm not a big fan of the Warhammer or Magic, but the Euchre is quite well attended. I would like to see Chess et. al. grow to that size. Let's see what happens. If you happen to live in Southeast Michigan, stop by. It's a nice place.
