Now the question is: Which one of the 2 puzzles can be achieved from a normal chess game position? Black or White? 🕺🏾

I don't see how it's possible to get two e-pawns when black hasn't moved their e-pawn nor made any captures.

BishopTakesH7

Same for black's two d-pawns.

BishopTakesH7

I suppose there could be piece promotions though.

BishopTakesH7

Hm this puzzle seems too smart for me. Both positions seem impossible.

BishopTakesH7

Perhaps I should refer this to the "shortest proof games" thread. They're much smarter.

Hello my friend.

I have had real hard time trying to make a puzzle that tick these boxes:

- A puzzle where you have a rook climbing up towards the opposing king to deliver checkmate as seen in both puzzles.

- This must be a winning puzzle as opposed to numbers of mating moves puzzle. The starting side most not have a winning chance otherwise-ly.

- The puzzle must be achieved from a normal starting position.

With that said, promoted pieces can be used to get the pawns to line up in a suitable position.

You are welcome to suggest if there is a way to make all the above fall into place.

This one is almost perfect... well almost because of the obvious aesthetic flaw of double white queens on the board. frustrated

Stop mocking Chess! I will bar you from my club if you ever show these ideas there.

That can be solved by a promotion-trick. However there are other issues. The situation is very inflexible. I have been working on a solution to this headache of a puzzle. If I was not as stubborn I would have give in long ago. There must surely be a way.

Even this can be obtained from chess-ground-zero. However still 2 queens on the board, unfortunately.

My friends, plz go to the top of this thread and look for the "grey" version. The beast seems to be tamed, at last!  🦁
